Bread Toast Crumbs
Bread Toast Crumbs: Recipes for No-Knead Loaves and Meals to Savor Every Slice | Alexandra Stafford
6 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
With praise from Dorie Greenspan, Jim Lahey, and David Lebovitz, the definitive bread-baking book for a new generation. But this book isn't just about baking bread-- it's about what to do with the slices and heels and nubs from those many loaves you'll bake. Alexandra Stafford grew up eating her mother's peasant bread at nearly every meal--the recipe for which was a closely-guarded family secret. When her blog, Alexandra's Kitchen, began to grow in popularity, readers started asking how to make the bread they'd heard so much about; the bread they had seen peeking into photos. Finally, Alexandra's mother relented, and the recipe went up on the internet. It has since inspired many who had deemed bread-baking an impossibility to give it a try, and their results have exceeded expectations. The secret is in its simplicity: the no-knead dough comes together in fewer than five minutes, rises in an hour, and after a second short rise, bakes in buttered bowls. After you master the famous peasant bread, you'll work your way through its many variations, both in flavor (Cornmeal, Jalapeno, and Jack; Three Seed) and form (Cranberry Walnut Dinner Rolls; Cinnamon Sugar Monkey Bread). You'll enjoy bread's usual utilities with Food Cart Grilled Cheese and the Summer Tartine with Burrata and Avocado, but then you'll discover its true versatility when you use it to sop up Mussels with Shallot and White Wine or juicy Roast Chicken Legs. Finally, you'll find ways to savor every last bite, from Panzanella Salad Three Ways to Roasted Tomato Soup to No-Bake Chocolate-Coconut Cookies. Kicking off #MtCookbook this week with one of my favorites! Ali Stafford has such approachable, delicious recipes. I‘m making the Spicy Jalapeño, Corn and Jack Bread, which I have made before, but as it has been over 6 years, it‘s like new. ?

Also, I got out corn in preparation, but found out the “Corn” is actually cornmeal. ?

Tamra Woot woot! 😋 That‘s going to be tasty. (edited) 11mo

mabell @dabbe @Tamra @Aimeesue Fresh bread is so delicious! Especially when it contains cheese 😄 11mo
Tamra @mabell no doubt! I too have a cornbread on my list. Can‘t go wrong. 11mo
intothehallofbooks This looks amazing! I want to look it up and try it myself. Sidenote: I have added a small can of creamed corn to my cornbread before and I really like the flavor and texture. I wonder if that would work here. 11mo
mabell @intothehallofbooks I highly recommend her cookbook! Some of the recipes can also be found on her blog. This is famous no knead peasant bread: https://alexandracooks.com/2012/11/07/my-mothers-peasant-bread-the-best-easiest-... The recipe I just made is a variation - yeast bread plus cornmeal. Adding creamed corn to cornbread is a great idea! 11mo
mabell @Tamra Oooo I look forward to seeing that! 11mo
janeycanuck Oh, that sounds like something my husband would die for! 11mo
mabell @janeycanuck You can never go wrong with cheese bread! 😄 11mo
janeycanuck @mabell I agree! It‘s literally two of the world‘s best things combined!! 11mo

Sunday breakfast 🍳 ❤️

Bacon, egg, white cheddar sandwiches that tasted much better than they looked. 😆 Bread from Bread Toast Crumbs (I can't recommend this cookbook highly enough! The photos are gorgeous, and the recipes pretty foolproof - says this fool) Fresh eggs from my parents' backyard chickens, which were amazing and I don't love eggs. Success!

LeahBergen Yum! 7y
Ingerella Looks delicious! 7y

I love this cookbook! I have made bread from its recipes many times, but I just started dabbling in the other recipes. Last night was pissaladiere. Yum! (Especially with alfredo for dipping 😁)

The instructions are easy, the photography is gorgeous, and the recipes are everyday, approachable foodie. If that makes sense. The concept is you make the bread, then there recipes using the bread, finally recipes that use the crumbs.
Highly recommend!

Tamra I need to check this out, because I always have the leftover bread bits. 🍞🥖 7y
mabell @Tamra Same here! I haven't tried any of the "crumbs" recipes yet, but they all sound delicious. 7y
BookMaven407 This sounds great! I was gifted with a bread machine last year and enjoy fresh baked bread. Yummy 😋 (edited) 7y
mabell I have a bread machine too and love it! This book's recipes use the *magic* no-knead approach, which results in a unique flavor and texture. It makes to-die-for toast! I just had some for lunch! 😂 7y
