Makers: The New Industrial Revolution | Chris Anderson
10 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
Wired magazine editor and bestselling author Chris Anderson takes you to the front lines of a new industrial revolution as todays entrepreneurs, using open source design and 3-D printing, bring manufacturing to the desktop. In an age of custom-fabricated, do-it-yourself product design and creation, the collective potential of a million garage tinkerers and enthusiasts is about to be unleashed, driving a resurgence of American manufacturing. A generation of Makers using the Webs innovation model will help drive the next big wave in the global economy, as the new technologies of digital design and rapid prototyping gives everyone the power to invent -- creating the long tail of things.

A close up of the scene @Chrissyreadit created for me, I want to crawl inside and live there! So beautiful!. #makerswap @LibrarianRyan

Chrissyreadit Yay!!! I‘m glad you like it. I wanted to paint the cup but had the wrong sharpies... Monticello is not too far away! I‘m hoping to get there with my kids. My son went with scouts a few years ago. 6y

Thank you @Chrissyreadit for this beautiful and thoughtful swap package! I‘ve never done rock painting but I think it will be fun and therapeutic at the same time! Four books! And I can‘t wait to read all of them (I have no issue with used books, I‘m kind of obsessed with my local used book store!). The theme was “cozy reading” and I can wait to snuggle up with this package. I tried to get everything in one picture... #makerswap @LibrarianRyan

Chrissyreadit @GloVerdino I‘m looking forward to hearing what you think of the books. I‘ve read two of them and Sadie is on my real life TBR pile. 6y
GloVerdino @Chrissyreadit I might have to move some of these higher on my TBR list, I‘m dying to read Sadie and I‘ve been hounding my sister for her copy of Eligible but now I have my own! 6y

I love crafting, but it is always at a beginner level. #makerswap

LibrarianRyan There is nothing wrong with that. 6y
Valink I only put myself at “expert/semi expert” in knitting because I can read and execute complicated patterns, and spinning because I can make the yarn the thickness I want! I‘ve made quite a few crochet projects, but I often need to google instructions for the stitches! 6y

Knitting is really my thing but I‘ve done crochet, beading, jewelry making, cross stitch/embroidery. I tried quilting once and hated it, but I love trying new things! #makerswap @LibrarianRyan

LibrarianRyan Yeahhh 6y
GloVerdino Oh, and I did a little quilling last year too - loved that! 6y

Just signed up for my first Litsy swap and I‘m so excited! Did anyone else sign up??

Jilly6183 I can't make things, but have you see the show "Making It"? Highly recommend, but especially if you are crafty 6y
GloVerdino @Jilly6183 hahaha! I haven‘t seen it, I‘ll have to find it! 6y
Jilly6183 @GloVerdino It's a craft competition show hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, and all the contestants are nice and supportive and help each other out, so it's really sweet and refreshing. Not sure what network it was on but I watched it on Hulu. Sorry not book related but check it out! 6y

My #makerswap box came! 🎉 It is now hidden in the closet to prevent an attack of grabby hands.

MommyOfTwo I can‘t wait for you to open it either! 7y
LectricSheep @MommyOfTwo I have to admit I stalked your feed a little bit to see if I could get any hints about what was inside 🙊 but you‘re like Fort Knox! 7y
