#bookreport from #hiselderliness
Gone 🤪 and decorated with pets wearing masks - appropriate for Dads current fascination with feeding birds and daily wild rabbit visits.
He loved Spearhead - “very interesting. If you want to know what it‘s like to fight in a war this is fair dinkum.”
He borrowed my copy of My Place when the library was locked down - “a good read. I didn‘t realise how badly treated they were.” (Australia‘s indigenous)
Centique If you don‘t know what “fair dinkum” means, it‘s kind of like “it‘s the real deal”. May be the first time that piece of slang has been used as a book review here 😂😂 4y

LeahBergen I learned about ‘fair dinkum‘ from listening to Kevin Bloody Wilson. 😆😮😮 4y

batsy Glad to hear that he's back to doing book reports ❤️ 4y
Centique @LeahBergen oh wow, I haven‘t thought of Kevin Bloody Wilson in years! Good memories 😂😂 4y
AlaMich I always thought “fair dinkum” was like “ay caramba” when I was studying Spanish: a saying that actual New Zealanders/Australians never say, but the rest of the world thinks they do. 😂 4y
Reggie I have a friend at work who is an animal lover and I told her about your dad building the rabbits a shelter/patio and she just smiled real big. 4y
Centique @AlaMich yes you‘re right for NZ anyway. I doubt anyone under 80 would say it! 4y
Centique @Reggie awww I‘m so glad 😊 4y
Centique @Reggie oooh I just thought of an anecdote you might like. I visited Weta Workshops last year - they did all the cool effects for Lord of the Rings and other films - Hobbiton etc. You get a guided tour and they‘re telling us they also make things that are not for films. Couple years ago some millionaire had them make 130 tiny hobbit like houses for his guinea pigs. 🐰🐰🐰 Ridiculous but also cool 😊 4y
TrishB I remember fair dinkum from The Sullivans. Daytime telly in my childhood 😁 4y
