This book can link to my teaching in the classroom by promoting themes of empathy, respect for wildlife, and the importance of gentle interactions with animals, which are crucial lessons for young children.

This charming story, illustrated by the award-winning artist, uses humor and playful illustrations to teach young readers about the importance of kindness and respecting nature. I really enjoyed this book. It was informational yet done in a funny way that would keep kids entertained

blurb

“Mix a pancake,
Stir a pancake,
Pop it in the pan;
Fry the pancake,
Toss the pancake-
Catch it if you can.”

blurb
Reece203914

The book starts with a poem about how to write a poem which would be a great introduction into learning how to write poems. Great for upper grades to use during a poetry unit or even for lower grade levels to learn about rhyming words and during units about animals. You can tie this into a lot of different units and grade levels!

It features funny and thoughtful “how-to“ poems from different writers, both old and new, covering a range of topics. Richard Jones's lovely illustrations make the poems come alive, making it a delightful read for kids.

I would use this book across all ages, some poems are more complex than others. Some have a deeper meaning that could be fun to investigate with older children, while others are great for younger students as they are learning the rhythm or beat of poems. There are many times where you can spot rhyming words, making this an enjoyable read.

“Let's build a poem/made of rhyme/with words like ladders/ we can climb“ I liked this quote and poem because it describes the creativity and the rhythm of how a poem works.

I thought hat this book was filled with a lot of great poems as well as some prompts on how to create some poems. I like that the overall theme of this book was the outdoors and nature. This book would really good to read yo Pre-K or kindergarten because it introduces a lot of fun nature ideas and concepts.

The Proper Way to Meet a Hedgehog and Other How-to Poems was selected by Paul B. Janeczko and illustrated by Richard Jones. It was published in 2019. I read the poem titled How to Scare Monsters whose sound pattern included rhyming words. It was very short but to the point. The book had poems that were very silly, positive, and fun to read.

In this book, there are multiple poems. These poems offer an instructional guide on how to do various things. For example, one poem I read was “Mix a Pancake.“ This poem shares instructions on how to make a pancake and keeps it engaging through the use of rhyming.
