Daine controls the fate of Tortall in this thrilling conclusion to the Immortals series, featuring an updated cover for longtime fans and fresh converts alike, and including an all-new afterword from Tamora Pierce. During a dire battle against the fearsome Skinners, Daine and her mage teacher, Numair, are swept into the Divine Realms. Although they are happy to be alive, they are not where they want to be. They are desperately needed back home where their old enemy, Ozorne, and his army of strange creatures are waging war against Tortall. While trapped in the perilous realms of the gods, Daine discovers her mysterious parentage. But as the secrets of her past are revealed, so is the treacherous way back to Tortall. And so Daine and Numair embark on an extraordinary journey home, where the fate of all Tortall rests with Daine and her wild magic.

Dragons and duckmoles and badgers oh my! A grand adventure through the divine realms, a war of grand (you could even say divine) proportions, promises broken, and secrets revealed! A wonderful conclusion to this lovely series! I can‘t wait to get to Kel‘s books! (I just have to wait for them to arrive)

I liked it. But it‘s hard not to measure this series based on The Song of the Lioness, and it‘s not a flattering comparison. There‘s just not the depth of friendships or relationships that Alana gets—probably because animals take the place of humans…now that I think of it maybe that‘s on me because I don‘t value them the same? The other big side of that is the romance and it does feel rushed in this book and the age gap/power dynamics unaddressed.

1. I like both, but have never had either--I'm allergic 😔
2. The upcoming 3-day weekend!

Cosmos_Moon_River 😔 to # 1... is it possible to get wire-haired dogs or hairless cats? I actually really want a sphinx kitty. The bambino Sphinx are so funny! Next cat goals 😂🥰 4y
EclecticBookLover @Cosmos_Moon maybe. My husband is allergic too, but he had a dog and a cat growing up. For now, we just visit @aroc (when there's no pandemic!) 😄 4y
Cosmos_Moon_River Nice ☺️ hope we can get back to normal soon. 4y
vkois88 Thank you for the tag ❤️ 4y

This is a great wrap-up of this Tortallian quartet. Dane is my fave heroine in quite a while. I love how she speaks up for what she knows is right, how she is willing to learn she is wrong-the stubborn streak that keeps her from capitulating too quickly though-, and just her heart & will. This tale does a great job of tying off the strands of Dane‘s story and staying absolutely true to whom each character is. I definitely recommend this series 💜

Thanks for the tag @julesG - I actually found this hard - often because I'm not particularly loyal to an author - I'll love some of their work but have no interest in or intent to read some of their others... I'm pretty dedicated to this bunch tho! #top10authorrecommendation

julesG Top 10 in less than 5 hours. Great! I see some familiar names there. Especially Tamora Pierce, I need to get back to her. And Dame Agatha. 7y
julesG A new series? I did so not see this. Let me make that unknown. I still have to catch up with the Tortalls - got stuck after the Trickster. 7y

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, it's Numair's origin story so more of a prequel. I haven't finished the Bekka books either (I think they came after Trickster books even tho they take place much earlier) 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, although the trickster books are the ones with Alanna and George's daughter? 7y
julesG Yes, Trickster's is about Alanna's daughter, also called The Lioness' Daughter series. I think. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG - with the boy/crow love interest ☺️ it's all coming back! I've really only reread Alanna and Daine. I didn't appreciate Kel when I read her and I was starting to lose steam with the genre by the time Trickster came out, I missed the Terrier books coming out completely. It'd be amazing to start again from the beginning. 7y

This series was an excellent choice to cap off my month of re-reading.

Mehso-so

I FINALLY finished it. I should feel sad not relieved. I loved the first three in the series, the strongest being the third, but this one was a bit of a dud. I didn't care for the time in the Divine Realms and the rest was under-developed. I love Daine, I love Numair, I love their ragtag group of friends but I really wish this had been a stronger finish plot-wise. Plus, a romance between a 16 yo and a 28 yo makes me feel a little icky.

My 5yo is at a birthday party. I'm sitting in my car reading.

LauraBeth Been there, done that! Enjoy 😀 8y
MarriedtoMrT @LauraBeth It was a little warm in the car but I made some good headway on the book and avoided an hour of awkward parent conversation. Success! 8y

The rain stopped, the sun came out, and my Book Outlet shipment came four days early! Yay Tortall! My collection is complete (for now).

This stack is a #blameitonlitsy. The need to own the books, the connection to the entire Tortall series, the knowledge of Book Outlet, all Litsy's fault!

Today is one of those stormy, dreary days where all you want to do is stay at home and curl up with a book. Usually I'm at work when this happens but today I'm at home AND my kids and husband are gone for the morning. Yes!

LauraBrook Woo hoo!!! 🎉 8y

My weekend goal is to finish a book. Just one and I'd be happy. I'm still working on Sweep in Peace but I've also picked back up the last book in Daine's (The Immortals) quartet.

Good luck and happy reading to all the #readathon participants!

I succumbed to the Book Outlet sale siren call when I realized I could get all of the Tortall books I don't own yet . Some of the titles were under $2 and most were under $3. *swoon*

Mariposa_Bookworm Don't feel bad. I, too was seduced by Book Outlet. I bought enough to get $15 off my order. Woo Hoo! 8y

MarriedtoMrT @Johanna414 I did! They were all there so couldn't resist. 8y
MarriedtoMrT @Mariposa_Bookworm @emilyhaldi I didn't quite make the $15 off mark. I looked around some more trying to get there but got overwhelmed and gave up. 8y
emilyhaldi It's very easy to get overwhelmed on that site so I completely understand!! 8y
Reviewsbylola I wasn't able to resist either. Usually I have better self control but I saw a book I need for my summer santa. 😂 8y

My least favorite book of the series, not least because of the relationship. Still, a satisfying ending for a beloved character.

Now this is just a tragedy. Not only is the book's spine broken, and a strip of cloth tape (like from a first aid kit) is across the top of the page (not torn that much btw), there is a page missing. People need to respect library books more. Sheesh.

CaitlinSiem 😱 That's a big NO. Ugh. 8y
Guiltyascyn My library had a BEAUTIFUL copy of Huckleberry Finn and someone stabbed their pen repeatedly into the cover and I almost died. 8y
lilredhen @Guiltyascyn that's horrible! 8y
