Book 2 for #24B4Monday was a graphic novel that I bought off Amazon‘s Prime Day sale on a whim. It was a perfect transition from picture books to something more adult. It‘s relatively short so the characters weren‘t that deep. But, the eerily familiar storyline about technology and our addiction to it is fast-paced and told well through both the writing but especially through the colors and detailed illustrations.

Addiction to technology & how it plays out is very much a thing in comics/books these days resulting in some very interesting & entertaining stories. Case in point, the tagged comic in which securing your next digital buzz is all that matters & what that does to people & society. It‘s Remender so it‘s whacked & lots of fun. Read it along with Crowded, which builds its story around crowdfunding & the gig economy for its adventure/buddy comedy.

Couldn‘t resist—found all three at really good prices. On the TBR stack(s) they go!

•Gorgeous visual and illustrations
•Typical "technology is bad & will lead to doom & gloom" story
•Hypocritical in the messages it shares in relation to hero tropes
•Serious subject matter in regards to how the reliance of technology can fuck people up
•Very messy & overambitious plot themes leave the 1st volume feeling disorienting & unsatisfying
•Cliched & predictable
•White saviour BS
•1/5

BiblioNyan Also, the romanticised notion of the samurai "honour" tropes are so overdone and unnecessary, not to mention highly inaccurate. 7y

Starting book three for #BookTubeAThon today. It's a dystopian, cyberpunk series about how everyone's addicted to their technology, literally. Everyone needs a virtual fix and when people try to steal it, a gangster, with the biggest monopoly, has his constables hunt them down. Definitely an interesting premise!

Not joking about being addicted to this comic. I've read through volume one three times in the days I've been waiting for volume two to ship. I'll probably read it another three times after I have the entire story arc in front of me. Under the hyper-violence glitz of insane battle carnage, it's such a gut-wrenchingly truthful story about a codependent woman in love with an addict. Volume Two is going to break my heart, I've been assured.

Laalaleighh I'm sorry. Language I know but I'm dying at "what the shit is this fuck" bc I've only ever heard that phrase reversed, I can't help but think this must be a translating error, and im totally adopting it for my own use. ? 8y

Why can't every comic book writer be as imaginative and emotional complex of a story teller as Rick Remender? 😭 I'm addicted.

Futuristic drug addled Los Angeles - where everyone is looking for a digital buzz high. The gangs who run the drug racket hire a duo (awesomely named) Led Dent and Debbie Decay for a job in the last tech-less enclave....Tokyo. Lol.
