First book finished for #JubilantJuly Readathon

John Douglas takes a look at some cases that have never been solved in this audiobook. He tells, in the early ones, how he would have gone about helping solve them or work on them. It's a wide range of cases. Included are: Jack the Ripper, Lindbergh case, Lizzie Borden, the Zodiac Killer, the Black Dahlia, Boston Strangler and JonBenet Ramsey.

I liked the book, but it seemed to me that his ego was getting in the way. I know he is a great profiler, no question about that, but sometimes he went a little overboard for me, when he was talking about how he would have done the investigation and how some were really screwed up from the beginning.
That just got on my nerves and dropped my rating to 3⭐.

🙂 Happy Reading 🙂

5⭐️ Read/Listen

So many feels in this one, almost too much at times. It did however, make for an intriguing & thought provoking #ImpulseRead to mark off my Bingo card🤓📚

🧐Really makes you wonder about people & how such horrific things can even be imagined, never mind actually carried through with.

CoverToCoverGirl That‘s one of the reasons I only intake the news in small doses.. 2y
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl Same here my friend❤️‍🔥 I‘m more likely to stumble upon a news article than the actual “live” 📺to which I almost never watch. I usually binge or watch a specific show/movie. 2y

If you want an overview of some historic cases, this is definitely the book to try. A lot of ppl say that Douglas is very me, me, me, about his skills in this book, and it certainly shows when he was discussing the Ramsey case (as he worked it), but I‘d say he definitely has reason to be proud of his skills. This is his expertise and the book is him giving said expertise on many unsolved crimes. I‘d listen to him profile any unsub.

I asked my coworker to choose a number between 1 and 23 (my total number of audiobooks) and this is the one we got. So a break from the bearded brothers and diving into some cold cases! #currentlylistening

I knew the basic (and sometimes not so basic) facts of most of the cases in this book already, but Douglas' perspective often made me consider them in a way I hadn't before, or provided details that I had never heard anywhere else. I enjoyed it a lot, and Douglas is very clearly an expert in his field with a great voice.

This was a mixed bag. Some of it was a bit boring because it didn‘t feel as if anything new was revealed—the book starts off with Jack the Ripper and spends an exorbitant amount of time on it with no resolution. On the flip side, I was so intrigued by the analysis of some of the other cases, most specifically Lizzie Borden and Jonbenet Ramsey. He managed to easily change my mind about one case and confirm my thoughts on the other.

BarbaraBB Interesting premise! 4y

Another find in my little library.
The books were all over the place and unorganized, so while I'm working on correcting that, I'm finding titles to add to my tbr

Guess I'll wait for the rain to stop so I can mosey down to the Greek festival. Rainy day car reading it is!

Reading glasses definitely make a difference! Almost done with this book- on the chapters that deal with JonBenet Ramsey. Her death still saddens me and I hate that the truth behind her murder might never be completely known (although, of course, I have my theories).

Finished my 13th hour with some true crime! I really enjoyed doing #13inThree! It was a bit of a challenge because I worked the weekend and hung out with friends today, but that made it even more fun. #Readathon #murderino #SSDGM

Clare-Dragonfly I keep trying to remember what the cases in this are. JonBenet, Jack the Ripper, Lindbergh baby, Zodiac, and what else? 7y
MidnightBookGirl @Clare-Dragonfly the only one you're missing is Lizzie Borden. I'm almost done with the Lindbergh chapter. I thought I knew all about it already, but there was a lot that I either forgot or never learned. 7y
Clare-Dragonfly Of course, Lizzie! Thanks! 7y
