Long ago, when I was in my teens, I followed the news stories of the Lebanese civil war and hostage taking, and then in my early 20s, the release of some of those hostages, including Terry Waite. His dignity had a huge impact on me. I saw him when he visited my local bookstore when Taken On Trust was first released, and saw him speak again at an event a few years ago - still a powerful speaker in his 70s.

I‘ve always found this chap very #Inspiring. We‘re all feeling stressed about staying in the comfort of our homes, while in touch with are loved ones: Waite spent four years in a cell alone.

Held hostage for almost five years, 4 of them in solitary confinement, this was the book Waite wrote in his head, and committed to paper when he was eventually released. I could sit an listen to this man talk for hours. #NowWeAreFree

I have twice been privileged to hear this man give a #Talk about his experiences as a hostage in the Lebanon, and what he learned from the experience. He said, on his first visit to Beirut since his release from captivity “If you are bitter, it will eat you up and do more damage to you than to the people who have hurt you." I have so much respect for him. I read the book immediately after its release, probably time for a reread.
