I‘m so glad I listened to this memoir. Tegan and Sara narrate it themselves and they did a really good job. I love how they included old recordings of their songs in between the chapters. It was fun to hear the original versions of the songs from their album Hey, I‘m Just Like You and how they evolved 20 years later. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An entertaining if underwhelming memoir about their high school years. It focused more on relationships with friends, girlfriends, and parents than on discovering music, which surprised me. I wanted more details about how they wrote their 1st songs, esp. given they didn't have formal training. For some people this will evoke memories of their own high school years, but this didn't happen for me (my high school experience was very different).

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I would definitely recommend the audiobook version read by the authors and with snippets of song demos, home recordings, and an interview they did with each other about the experience writing the book. I think in print this would have been a so-so for me 5y

Though I feel lucky to be able to work from home, it hasn't left me with any extra reading time, so much of my April #bookspin is a carryover from March ... including my March #doublespin, which I put off because my hold on the tagged book came in on Libby. 🙃 Nevertheless, I was pleased with the number of slots I ended up needing to fill, since I also used the list as a sort of makeshift March TBR. ☺️ Thanks again to @TheAromaofBooks for hosting!

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Glad to have you back for another round! 5y
TReads @TheAromaofBooks Thanks, Sarah!!! So far it's the only book challenge I've tried that actually works!!! 😊 Can't wait to see what April's spin(s) will be. 5y
TheAromaofBooks I think this challenge really works because it's a list of books everyone is planning to read anyway haha I really enjoy reading challenges, but so often they add books to my list instead of checking off books I already have there! 5y
TReads @TheAromaofBooks That's a great point! ?There's also something about the balance you've created between the structure of a set list and the surprise of the spin that keeps my brain from saying, "Naw, let's ignore all the books you already have and read this shiny new one instead." ☺️?☺️ It's also a tone of fun to participate with such a great group of Littens!!! #bookspin 5y

As much as this makes me re-live adolescence and cringe, I‘m addicted. It makes me think of all the ways I‘ve grown and embarrassing things I‘ve lived through. I love Tegan and Sara‘s sometimes brutal honesty.

I loved this book! It's funny how a book about someone else's high school experience brought my own high school memories into sharper focus.

Trying to catch up; I have loved Tegan and Sara since high school, they raised me from a sweet baby queer to who I am now. I‘ve seen them live 6 times, including the tour for this book, and they‘ve never disappointed. I listened to this one on audio and it‘s so good, the inclusion of actual audio from their early days made the book so much better.

5/5🌟A candid, poignant and insightful coming of age memoir. They recount their own high school experience. Sharing stories that highlight their individual struggles with teen angst, family, twin life, identity, self esteem, drinking, depression, drugs, first loves, longing, the confusion and acceptance of their sexuality (both are gay), bullying, music.
This will be available September 24th!
