Welcome to Litsy!

Meh. I almost got into a reading slump with this one. The writing style felt very sophisticated, which would have been fine if the characters were sophisticated as well. The characters (they‘re high school seniors) were drinking a lot and then in the mornings they‘d be complaining about their hangovers and then that night they be drinking like vodka and whisky. The plot didn‘t become really page-turner-y until over halfway through. ⬇️

This book was really awesome. It is a story about religion and identity and love. This was exceptional because it really didn‘t just show one side of religion. It showed that even if you are a religious person, it doesn‘t have to mean that you are against same sex relationships. It showed the prejudice and the hardships and the struggle to come to terms with your identity as a teen. I think this is an important book right now.

Hannah goes to catholic school in the deep south and has a tight knit group of friends. She's also in love with her best friend, Baker.

The book deals with a lot of the prejudices facing #LGBTQ youth in the south, the difficulty in being confident in both your sexuality and religion, as well as the day-to-day struggles with figuring out who you're meant to be.

I don't know why more people on Litsy aren't talking about this book. It's phenomenal!
