The third Frazier I‘ve read and another winner. Not historical fiction like the others, but a similar deep dive into character, and reflection. Frazier is a master of place and I could read the descriptions over and over again and be content.

Starting this tonight for February‘s in-real-life-over-Zoom book club.

Lcsmcat @BookishMarginalia That‘s Amélie. She is less of a lap cat than her sister, but occasionally I get lucky. 4y

This is the first book I‘ve read by Charles Frazier. It showed up in my Little Free Library.

It‘s a slower paced thriller I guess? With some characters I really liked and a beautiful sense of place. I enjoyed it, it‘s not the kind of thing I read very often.

Ruthiella I‘ve only read Cold Mountain, but it was also very slow paced but with beautiful language. 4y

Absolutely loved this book! It takes place in the 1960s, so I loved it even more than Cold Mountain. Highly recommend!

"Stubblefield tries to find a place to carry his pistol. Sticking it down the waistband of his pants seems treacherous, so he puts it in his jacket pocket. But its weight pulls that side down uncomfortably, so he loads a book in the other pocket for balance."

This character also has a "car library" and went through a Beatnik period. How awesome is this guy!

Yeah. Pretty mucb.

My new golden colored #SRP cup. My husband dropped and broke my blue one a while back, and I had to wait till now to replace it. Loving Nightwoods, btw, though TPTB have been keeping me from it the last few days, since my husband's birthday often falls on Father's Day weekend. #MtTBRchallenge #Overdrive

While some of the characters are well drawn, most are caricatures. All Southern stereotypes find a cozy home in this exceedingly slow novel. Trigger warnings for abuse.
Luce “inherits” her murdered sister‘s damaged twins. The kids witnessed the murder and don‘t speak. They do like to set fires. When her sister‘s murderer tracks them down, Luce may have more trouble than she can handle. Unsatisfying ending alert.

You can go home again! Frazier's rich details and sensory descriptions take you deep into the underbelly of the woods and human nature where life and death are ordinary, predictable daily events. A strong and persevering female protagonist combined with a well paced plot make this a must read.

I fell in love with Luce, the protagonist. I found her so relatable. If you're looking for action and thrills this is not the book to choose. It is, though, slow and enveloping and delicious. Perfect autumn/winter read. I loved it from start to finish.

As usual with Charles Frazier, the writing was excellent, but this book was too scary for me to finish. I wish I knew it all worked out OK for that little family in the woods. #scarybooks #somethingforsept
