The largest known meteorite has been discovered, entombed in the earth for millions of years on a frigid, desolate island off the southern tip of Chile. At four thousand tons, this treasure seems impossible to move. New York billionaire Palmer Lloyd is determined to have this incredible find for his new museum. Stocking a cargo ship with the finest scientists and engineers, he builds a flawless expedition. But from the first approach to the meteorite, people begin to die. A frightening truth is about to unfold: The men and women of the Rolvaag are not taking this ancient, enigmatic object anywhere. It is taking them.

This story of human hubris in the face of unimaginable challenge might be considered an engineering thrilller. When an absurdly wealthy collector sets his sights on what promises to be the largest meteorite ever discovered, he hires an elite firm to unearth it from an island off Cape Horn and transport the massive object to NY via modified oil tanker. This was a tense, cinematic story. It didn't pass the Bechdel test, but it was a thrilling read.

Outrageously rich man hires a special team of people to recover an enormous meteorite and transport it from the bottom of South America to NY state. Chaos ensues. I alternated between the book and audio for this one. Definitely a page turner.

This is a P & C standalone but has a couple of familiar characters in it, especially if you have read their Gideon Crew series. Now I can pick up the 4th Gideon Crew Book, Beyond the Ice Limit.

#chillyreads #photoadaynov16 Snowmen at Night makes me happy. The Lefthand of Darkness made me want to scream. The Ice Limit was great, as those two are some of my favorite authors.

Suzze I love, love, love Snowmen at Night!!!! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ 8y
Liatrek I picked up the Left Hand of Darkness at half price and it's on my TBR. Was the screaming in frustration? 😊 8y
Sarahr875 Yes @Liatrek it isn't the type of book that I'd usually read, but we read it for my book club so I had to finish it! She makes up a language in the book and doesn't really explain much about it, and it was just weird. I am sure that Le Guin fans probably just loved it and think I'm crazy for despising it, so I really hope that you enjoy it! 8y
Liatrek @Sarahr875 Thanks! I hope so too :-) 8y
