so so, 2/5 stars
Smokey Joe ( cat) obviously doesn‘t care. My feminist book club is reading this book of essays. I loved them, even though Alida is a bit younger than me. Her spunk, wit and humor is perfect for all the usual topics - sex, feminism, weight loss, female friendships and safety. Her voice is honest and funny which makes it feel like having drinks with your girls. Well done millennials - you have your next Roxanne Gay - we‘re in good hands. 👏🏻
Grabbed this off the shelf on my way up to bed since Alphabet Juice isn‘t the easiest to read cozied up in bed (I mark the words I‘ve read so I don‘t keep reading the same ones). We shall see if I‘m feeling it or if I‘ll put it on hold.
I'm in a mood tonight. Figured I'd just roll with it. #Readingglasses
Preparing for our #WomenReadWomen2019 reading theme with mackerel ceviche (batang) and grilled pork courtesy of husband. Sunday lunch!
Life is weird, and sometimes you get to pay for your mistakes, and sometimes you get to realize them, and sometimes you get to redeem yourself a little bit.
Quick read full of entertaining stories of growing up, friendships, dating and learning to be comfortable in your own skin😊👍
I enjoyed this book so much! It's funny, poignant, and so relatable. Nugent's narration feels like you are hanging out with your best friend talking about being a woman. Thank you Sarah for sending me this book! #secretsantagoespostal
This is so relatable.
Feminism: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. 🙌🏻 #sayitlouderforthepeopleintheback
Received my Holiday Gift from my Litsy Secret Santa today! Thank you @Sara_Planz I absolutely love it! I can't wait to read these 🙂😍
Y'all, bookoutlet.com is simultaneously giving me life and ruining it at the same time.
I'm so sad I'm done with this book !! Alida's essays are hilarious, relatable and with her commentary and witty banter, she also dishes out some advice too that every female can take in. Definitely a must read for feminist ! Loved it
I loved this. It was incredibly accessible, powerful and often laugh out loud funny. She flits around subjects in quick, charming essays reminding you that individuality is important and to be celebrated.
👍 because of her voice, her honesty & the LOL moments. But this book made me feel old. Her feminism is different than mine, more individual than collective, but it is no less valid or important. I wish I'd read a book like this 20 yrs ago when I was starting to understand what feminism was for me.
Rough week at work means I need my vino 🍷 and a book about women kicking ass IRL. Love the cover and don't judge me on the wine being almost gone.
"It was dark and unforgiving. It called attention to your face. It screamed, "You don't have to like me." It screamed all the things I had wanted to scream for so long, but I instead chose to stay pretty, aim for pretty, aim for flattering.
Starting this for my book club today! #beyourownbookclub
This book is A+ so far.
I realized feminism was a thing I could claim for myself back in 2003, when I first read Carol Queen. Jessica Valenti, Jennifer Baumgardner, and many others soon followed. I love the explosion of new feminist manifestas I've been reading lately. Which are your favorites?
"Calling yourself a feminist is like making a comment on the Internet in real life: there's always somebody who is going to disagree with your beliefs, and that person is going to express this disagreement with great passion and little digs at your life choices."
I nodded so much while reading this book that my neck got sore. It was like sitting down with a feminist pal and having her say all the things that are in my head, and quite a few I had never thought of. Highly recommended - funny, smart, and incisive.
Fun, fierce feminism in its finest form. Equal parts like listening to a great friend and also listening to yourself.
New books! Yay! Nugent will come first after I finish the eleventy billion books I'm already reading.
Great collection of charming, wry and highly relatable essays. This is a quick read, and I'll definitely be recommending it to all the young women in my life.
Getting my feminist on, pink pen at the ready.
enjoying this one little bit by little bit
