Deeper Than the Dead
Deeper Than the Dead | Tami Hoag
California, 1985-Four children and young teacher Anne Navarre make a gruesome discovery: a partially buried female body, her eyes and mouth glued shut. A serial killer is at large, and the very bonds that hold their idyllic town together are about to be tested. Tasked with finding the killer, FBI investigator Vince Leone employs a new and controversial FBI technique called "profiling", which plunges him into the lives of the four children-and the young teacher whose need to uncover the truth is as intense as his own. But as new victims are found, Vince and Anne find themselves circling the same small group of local suspects, blissfully unaware that someone very near to them is a murderous psychopath... Considering how old this book is, it's pretty good. It's written basically in the early days of FBI profiling. When serial killers were at their height.

Man, can Tami write, this was one hell of a book..great story line, characters you want to know more of..hoping the end keeps them safe. Hard to put down, grabs you from the first chapter.

Very good!! I've been needing a new crime fiction author to binge and I've never read anything by Tami Hoag before so I'll for sure be reading more of her stuff. A definite page turner.

I do so love sniffing out a cute bakery! And this one has the added benefit of a cute and airy patio, perfect for getting some chapters in on my new book (which is really good so far!)

PS: A little visitor tried to creep up on my chocolate croissant right as I went to take the photo 😂

Wow, this was quite the book. I didn‘t want to put it down. It was like a Law and Order SVU or Criminal Minds episode. The timeline was a bit rushed, but that didn‘t take away anything from the story for me. There were a few bits that surprised me and I‘ll definitely continue reading this series along with more from Tami Hoag!

Winner!

For fans of thrillers and mysteries, this is a must read. I was very proud to say I figured out who the killer was early on, but the author had me second guessing my thoughts more than once.

Imagine being a child, out with your friends, when you literally stumble upon a dead body? That is exactly what happened to start off the story and that is not the last body that is about to turn up...

Nonstop thriller and moments where I gasped!

Loved this creepy thriller. It was full of suspense and not dry at one point. I really enjoyed this and I love that it‘s a series because I also really enjoyed the characters and am excited to read more!

Mehso-so

Finished this one today on the homeward commute, and it was definitely so-so for me. The central story was good but there were too MANY stories, especially for what was supposedly a quiet little college town, and too many POV changes. Trigger warnings for child and domestic abuse.

I recently read this book and did not get it back to the library in a timely manner. I accrued fines of $2.00. I am a terrible library patron. To make matters worse, I saw the book today at the flea market for 50 cents.

Texreader @Melwilk Is it awful that I laughed at your comment and then shared it with the husband? I loved the Charlie Brown artwork you chose because of your loss! I would do the same darned thing! Just my luck!! 8y
Melkyl @Texreader - Not awful at all! Sadly, stuff like that is the story of my life. That's why I have an affinity for Charlie Brown 😂 8y
SusanInTiburon Can you rebrand it as an unexpected donation to your library? 🤑 8y

This was a quick, perfect for summer read. It wasn't too difficult to figure out the killer's identity, but it was still an interesting mystery.

I recently started reading this on the recommendation of a friend. It is not one I would normally choose, but it has a quick beginning to draw the reader in. It's interesting because it is set in the 1980s, so the detectives have to work without modern technology.
