(I am rereading books for the upcoming school year!) Such a mournful book, but it‘s beautifully done (as is almost everything by DiCamillo). A caged tiger, a motherless boy, and a girl who is a tiger are great characters. They all come together in a sad, but freeing, conclusion. Love this book.

This 2001 Newburry winning book is a story of a young boy who lives in a hotel with his father. He finds a tiger in a cage in the woods near the hotel, and the book centers around him and a young bullied girl trying to set the tiger free. I would definitely recommend this book!

The Sistine Chapel. Beginning in 1492, the simple brick building has hosted numerous papal conclaves, during which cardinals gather to vote on a new pope. Also, Sistine, a MC in The Tiger Rising was named after the chapel. #litsyspringbreak Prompt: Rome. This chapel is my favorite place.

I finished this delightful MG book today. Katie DiCamillo is one of my favorite authors. She does such an amazing job with delivering emotional, real topics in a way that relates to younger audiences, but her writing also resonates with readers of all ages. 💚

This book deals with grief, friendship, loneliness, and also finding happiness even in the difficult times.

mandarchy She is amazing. I follow her on Facebook and learned that she reads Charlotte's Web once a year. 4y

A young boy and a young girl not-dealing with the loss of a parent. This was her second book and it reminded me of her Raymie Nightingale series. She explores some serious questions about life and living, not sure at what age one is truly ready to go there.

Tattooedteacher Such a good book. 4y

This F novel can be a window for children who hasn‘t experienced the lost of a loved one yet. Or a mirror for children who are currently coping with grief. This could be a beneficial LC book. cpalms.org/uploads/resources/63324/The_Tiger_Rising_Literature_Circle_Questions_with_Possible_Answers.docx UDL 9.2, ESOL 10

DrSpalding This is considered realistic fiction, not fantasy. Make sure you include a summary based on your reading of the book. This author is an excellent one to include in your classroom library! (edited) 5y

The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo is a RF book that I would use as an IR or LC. It was the National Book Award Finalist in 2001. The story is about a boy named Rob that finds a tiger locked in a cage in the middle of the woods. He meets a girl named Sistine, and they must learn how to work together and trust each other. #UCFLAE3414SU19

Kendylleonard The resource I found has comprehension questions for students to use in a literature circle. This can help deepen the understanding of what is happening throughout the book. https://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/63324 I would use UDL 3.3 and ESOL strategy 16. 5y
DrSpalding Excellent use of our state‘s lesson plan repository. You know I have a love for this particular author‘s work. I have read the majority of her novels and find this one to be an excellent read for fourth graders as it once again is set in Florida. 5y

The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillio is a RF novel with so many themes and hidden messages. This book is perfect for LC because your students WILL want to discuss what they think about the book. The story is so moving and a fantastic read! I 10/10 recommend this book! #LAE3414Sp19

Channing_Austin This resource is from Scholastic. I think the discussion questions will help LC students if they need a starting point to get the discussion rolling! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/tiger-rising-d... ESOL Strategy 2: Promote cooperation (small groups). UDL Principle 3.2: Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships. 6y

A great RF read about friendship and family relationship. UDL foster collaboration and community.ELL Promote cooperation. 2 very different children find each other and become close friends. They decide to free a tiger and what happens next is heartbreaking. Would use as IR or LC followed by class discussion. LibrarianRyan @ErinC @hermyknee Yes it is. Yes I'm a 90s kid which is probably when I bought this stationary. I have a little bit left. The Lisa Frank is the only think I kept all of (except fold a notes) when I gave most my stationary (military brat, I used to write LOTS of letters) to a local school program that has kids practice writing by sending letters to senior volunteers. I say this but still have a ton of stationary. 7y
LibrarianRyan @jfalkens they are fold a notes. Love them. Had them forever. I figure anything over a decade or two qualifies for forever. 7y
