“...The women were already drawing lots for you when you left."
Only the ladies?
”No.”

This series is actually pretty queer from the start, but I wasn‘t expecting it so assumed all these bits were an accident or a joke.

The second I finished The Lymond Chronicles I wanted to start over at the beginning, but considering these books took over my life for months it was… daunting.
Turns out David Monteith is one of the few solo narrators I can get into. Listening to his performance is a lot like watching a Shakespeare play for the first time. Just because you follow while reading doesn‘t mean you GET IT.
New episode just posted! This week we're talking Matt's chili recipe, reading emails, shouting out used bookstores, picking books to read in January, and discussing the great Olga Tokarczuk novel, “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.“ Just an overall jam-packed episode. Enjoy!

Got my first three volumes of the new paperback Lymond Chronicles. They are pretty, oversized and have decent sized print. Good additions to all my other versions of this series. #DorothyDunnett
Lymond accompanies Mary of Guise to the French court initially in disguise and then as herald to defuse a murder plot on a young Mary Queen of Scots. Overall a good second book in the series, which focusses on court politics. Lymond remains an outrageous Mary Sue, being a great fighter, a master musician an expert in intrigue and espionage, yet despite this remains a character with some emotional failings. A fun historically accurate story.
Giving myself permission to bail as I've got too many books I'd rather be reading than this one... let's just hope I understand what's going on in book 3!
A nail-biting second book for our Lymond. Also hurray for seeing more of Mary, Queen of Scots. 😊 I love this series. Adding the third book to next year's reading pool!
Oh myyyyy!
#litsyafterdark 😂😂😂
Me: What should I read next after bailing on The Case of the Dangerous Dowager?
Also me: QUEENS' PLAY
Me: But I already have a historical novel in my purse.
Also me: Who cares! I've been wanting to read this off and on for months.
Me: Fine. Queens' Play it is. But don't get mad at me when you feel like this bus book is taking forever.
Here is the trade paperback set of The Lymond Chronicles that I own, @LeslieO (and the aforementioned Queens' Play cover 😉). And for any other Litsy historical fiction fans out there, this series is highly recommended!
I think my Dunnetts are the only other books I can play #samebookdifferentcover with. #aprilbookshowers
Ahhh this was better than the first one and SO GOOD. I haven't had a lot of time for reading this week but the little time I've had has been spent in Lymond's world and I don't regret it one bit. These books are full of intrigue, nonstop twists and turns and wonderfully complex characters. This second installment built beautifully on the first and I'm sure it will only continue to get better. This will make you laugh, cry and cry out in shock. ❤
I think Lymond might make his way onto the naughty list on occasion 😇😏😈
