I got this book from a flea market back in 2016, finally got around to reading it. Almost halfway through the book, Joan hasn‘t saved France yet. But it‘s a really good read so far. Very promising!

TieDyeDude I listened to the audio and loved it! It is a very different kind of book from Twain, but still very much Twain :) 10mo

Words can't express how deeply this book touches the hearts of those who read it. There is a beauty, a greatness that you experience. I am an awe of Joan of Arc, Mark Twain really let her greatness shine through. Truly remarkable, truly one of the best.

God can truly use anyone, big or little. His power is what does the real fighting, people are merely vessels He uses. You are not too young or too old, too small or too large, you can be used to achieve great things.
Because When God fights it is but small matter whether the hand that bears His sword is big or little.

But those weak moments passed; they will not come again. I am enlisted, I will not turn back, God helping me...

"...she was such a vision of young bloom and beauty and grace..." Fawning phrases such as this one are throughout this historical fiction as told by an (fictional?) assistant to Joan of Arc. Mark Twain admired Joan so much and it shows, but it was just too gushing for me. Read this for Letter T of #LitsyAtoZ

Picture taken from web: "Joan of Arc" by Pre-Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, 1882.

TieDyeDude I found myself wondering whether it was Twain gushing or Twain's interpretation of how he thought people at the time gushed for Joan. Either way, it was a bit distracting. 7y
ValerieAndBooks @GoodForCirculation Twain's writing definitely is solid here as with his other works. But even though it's been many years since I last read him, I felt this was very different in tone compared to what I'd expect. Yes, definitely distracting. 7y

I think tonight is my only chance this weekend to do #LitsyPartyofOne! Starting this one, under my warm lap quilt because the weather has been so fall-like. Tomorrow hubby arrives from being away for three weeks. Sunday we take stuff up to my daughter who had to take the train to get to school. Back Tuesday. Hope I can get into this; it's my T for #LitsyAtoZ.

Lmstraubie A good, but busy weekend! Enjoy your trip to see your daughter. ☺️ 7y
DivineDiana Love the pairing! Enjoy reconnecting with hubby!❤️ 7y

These are some of the things we picked up at the gift shop of the Mark Twain home/museum in Hartford, CT. Tagged book is for myself. The Mark Twain on Travel book and one of the bookmarks is for my dad's upcoming birthday. My younger son wanted the author playing cards 😊. Hope to visit The Harriet Beecher Stowe home next time. Both could be done in the same day w/planning -- they're adjacent to each other.

vivastory I've been meaning to visit the Mark Twain birthplace in Hannibal 7y
kspenmoll If you cone back to Hartford & have time to meet up,let me know- I live about 40 minutes outside the city. 😍 7y

How did I not know of this book?! Especially that Twain considered it his best work?! Very excited to dive into it.
