This is one book I have been waiting to get to for a while, the 2nd book in the Inspector Lynley Series. They aren‘t quick reads with long chapters & big passages of text, but they are very well written and keep your interest throughout. An interesting dynamic between the four main characters in the series. This book left it at an interesting point in Lynley‘s life, intrigued to see what comes next.

I‘ve read all of the Elizabeth George books—love them! Lost interest in Follett years ago (can‘t remember why), and I never have read Binchy—at least, I don‘t think I have. I want to finish my Booked2019 prompts and keep up with the Cara Black books, and then start in with you guys for Nordic noir. 5y

Tove_Reads @gradcat We also read three series this year written by Adrian McKinty, Jane Casey and Mo Hayder. That‘s where the idea to read three more next year came. We only have a few Maeve Binchy books left, but plenty Folletts. All three of us love Follett! @eadieb @andrew65 @crazeedi 5y

gradcat @Tove_Reads I guess I should check out Follett again. I know I read a lot of Follett back in the 70s—my whole family was reading him then—but I fell out of love when he went into historical fiction. Others in my family liked them, but they, too, eventually quit Follett, so I don‘t really know much about his writing anymore. I know you guys got me very interested in Mo Hayder, but I haven‘t read any of them yet. Got to get on it! 5y

Loved the three series we read together. I have been hosting one Maeve Binchy Buddy Read a month for about a year and a half. I love her books - very different to most other books I read. I love the Irishness of them - she has a unique style. 5y

I'm definitely going to check out the Lynley books. And @Tove_Reads the 3 you mentioned I've never heard of authors! Wow! So many new series for me!!! Now you all have to get into Donna Leon sometime 5y

Crazeedi @Tove_Reads the covers are a bit cheesy at times, but I read on a recommendation from a blog, and I fell in love with them. So just a series to consider. If you've read Camilleri or martin walker series, hers are similar but different and so good 5y

I can‘t believe how many books I‘ve never heard of—WOW! About Donna Leon, I don‘t think the books are romantic at all, but I will say that about the tenth one I got sort of bored, but that may have been premature judgment on my part. I should probably go back to them. ♥️ 5y

Tove_Reads @gradcat OMG, Nicci French (a couple writing books) writes about Frieda Klein. One of the best series out there! Police, thriller, murder, crime. CJ Sansom writes the Shardlake series. Historical fiction, murder, crime. Set in the good old bloody days in England. Chunksters. 5y

gradcat @Andrew65 & @Crazeedi Yeah, I think I just really liked Follett‘s thrillers (they came before) so much that when his historical fiction came out, I just wasn‘t into it. I like historical fiction, but only by a very, very FEW authors. I think I might have to read the Mo Hayder books while you guys begin the Nordic series. I‘ve read so many of those that I figure I‘ll just jump in when you guys get to the ones I haven‘t read. 5y

gradcat @Crazeedi No, I really did like Commissario Brunetti, I promise! I can just be a bit fickle. I‘ve read several series in their entirety, but I don‘t finish all of the ones I start. Have you ever read any of Benjamin Black‘s (that‘s the pen name of John Banville) mysteries? I‘ve read all of those, & all of Elizabeth George‘s, & all of P. D. James‘ mysteries...and some others. But sometimes I just kind of stop. I don‘t know why. 🤷🏽‍♀️ 5y

Ruthiella Deception in His Mind was the first one I read and it made me a huge fan of Barbara Havers. Then I had to go back and read the rest as best I could. I still read them but I think they‘ve gone down in quality from the early books. 5y

Loved it. Love a good British mystery and this one was full of scandalous details. I've been mad at Elizabeth George ever since the first book of hers I ever picked up included a child dying. But I'm glad I gave her another go. Can't wait to read more of Lynley and Havers. #booktober #helloctober
