Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother
Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother | Amy Chua
15 posts | 45 read | 19 to read
Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother is a story about a mother, two daughters, and two dogs. It was supposed to be a story of how Chinese parents are better at raising kids than Western ones. But instead, it's about a bitter clash of cultures, a fleeting taste of glory, and how you can be humbled by a thirteen-year-old. Witty, entertaining and provocative, this is a unique and important book that will transform your perspective of parenting forever.

Very interesting. The description in the picture is perfect! Amy Chua makes me seem like a slothful parent 😂 Narrated by the author.

Controversial book but author says it‘s a satirical memoir. She‘s picking on herself. I enjoyed it and will take it with a grain of salt. It‘s certainly not perfect but it is entertaining.

4/5 🌟
Short, easy memoir. I enjoyed the honesty and humour. She has received a lot of negative criticism regarding her parenting style but I read memoirs not to judge but to learn about others. I'm glad I read this.

Raised in Asia, this form of upbringing is not alien to me... Though Amy Chua may have taken it up a notch.
Tagging this as #somethingaboutsurvival as this is how parents teach their children how to "survive" in Asia.

#WinterWonderland This memoir caused quite a media sensation when it was published in 2011. Amy Chua, a Chinese born and raised mom (living in the US) penned a “how to” guide to parenting Western born/raised children with Eastern values. This book left many #RunningAcrossThinIceWithTigers it definitely struck a chord with parents on both sides of the globe. I found it both thought provoking and entertaining.

Reggie Wow, you totally made this prompt glove look like it so easily slip on to your Litsy hand. Lol. 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @Reggie 😂I have a God given talent for the useless😂😂😂 6y
TrishB Agree with @Reggie I woke up thinking I wonder what we‘re all going to do for this one! 6y

I know this is an #unpopularopinion but I enjoyed reading this book. Also, liking a book does not mean I agree with her style of parenting. I got curious about this after she discussed the book at a lit fest.

Cinfhen Even though I parent VERY differently and I found her a “bit” TOO INTENSE I thought the memoir was pretty eye opening and remarkably honest. I enjoyed reading this memoir too!! Great pick 6y
BiblioLitten @Cinfhen That's what I thought too! It was an honest account and I don't think she was trying to be a 'monster'. 6y
Reviewsbylola This sounds good. My mind instantly compares it to my experience with the French parenting book/memoir Bringing Up Bebe. I read it when I was pregnant with my first child and thought it all sounded reasonable and then I actually had my baby and pretty much parented in the opposite way. 😂 6y
Mdargusch I‘m just glad not to be in that stage anymore. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 6y
BiblioLitten @Reviewsbylola In India, a lot of parents would identify with her style of parenting, the older generation, not the current set of parents. I haven't read the French memoir...got to get to it. #mounttbr😁 6y

WOW! I love Amy Chua! I love the way she dreams BIG for her children. She does not accept mediocrity. She just wants what's BEST for her children. She is very motivated, just very INTENSE. If you disapprove her parenting style then just look at her 2 children. Her children are very succesful and confident. I would love to have kids like her.I wouldn't do what Amy Chua is doing but she has some good advice.

Remember when this book came out and the hype around it? I read it six years ago. Much like other years-ago reads, I recall nothing.

Megabooks Omg, this book. 🙄🙄 7y
Cinfhen Hahaa, I definitely still remember parts of this one...I felt like Mother of the Year when this book was completed...she was one tough mama!!!! 7y

#rainbowstack last minute! 🌈🌈🌈 #24in48

kirriemummy I loved a cooks tour. I read it before he got all tv cheffy and was glad. Watch out for the part where he and Gordon ramsay spend an afternoon gleefully tearing poor old Jamie Oliver apart. I've always wondered whether it made foodie award shows awkward... 8y
Megabooks @kirriemummy I didn't watch the series. It came on when I was in college, and I didn't watch much tv then. I did enjoy the book though. 8y
