⭐️⭐️concepts are still awesome but execution of this one was not even on the level@as book one. You can read the first book as a stand alone. I would recommend that. This was too jumpy and confusing.

Oh, this book! 😍 Evolutionarily-accelerated spiders and octopuses in space, you say? Yes, and I loved it! It's exciting, wildly imaginative, and a proper thinky book to get the synapses firing. What more can you ask? A prominent neuro-divergent human character (Senkovi ❤️)? A third book in the series to look forward to? There's that, too. 🕷️🐙💫
I've heard great things about this series. I already have the first one and was happy to find this second one in a resale shop.
As you listen to the book, your understanding of the title changes. Ruin takes on new shapes and you‘re left with a sense of awe.
Both the books are a mirror to today‘s (real) society and the story makes you think about our actions.
Adrian is a genius and the narrator has done a fabulous job. If you are new to sci-fi like me and want to dip your toes into this genre, then choose this series.
You won‘t regret it. You‘ll go on an adventure.
An interesting book that gives you a lot to think about in a different way.
For #pop22 : A book with a constellation on the cover, I was originally going to read The Emperor of all Maladies, which is about the history of cancer. (Typical me turning one of the most whimsical prompts into something morbid.)
Then I realised that quite a lot if the books I owned have stars on the cover. What do you reckon? Do these count? I think I can see Orion's belt on a couple of them... and maybe an upside down dipper?! 😄🌠🪐
What's the cure for feeling glum because you don't have enough time to read all your delicious books?
MORE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!
Hear me out... the humans and the space spiders TEAM UP!!!!!!
(Yes, that is Mass Effect: the trilogy. Yes, I did say I wasn't going to buy any more video games until I'd played the ones I have. Let's just say it's an early birthday present 🎁❤?)
What do you think of my haul?
This was awesome. It took me a while to figure out the timeline - it‘s simultaneously the past and the present (pay attention to the section markers). There‘s new species‘ encountered and one is so interesting and frustrating. The idea of sentient, intelligent arachnids & cephalopods is eye-opening. Humans are NOT the EABA in this series. Should read book 1 to get acquainted with the species evolutionary history. 📚📚📚📚📚 READ THIS SERIES
If you're thinking it's a trilogy, but it's only a duology, and you keep on wishing there was a third book...That's me with those books. I want more. Please...

children of time was one of my favorite books of 2020 so it's a shame the sequel didn't quite work for me. there's some cool ideas here, but it ribs off the first book's structure too much and feels like it spins its wheels far too often. by the end, I was more exhausted than satisfied.
So, I decided to join this challenge, since I really want to work on my series. I really hope I won't forget to tag my series books - can't promise anything, but I'll try 😅

3.5 / 5 ⭐️ I LOVED the first book and think ultimately, I‘d prefer it not being a series. This second adventure, though endlessly creative, repeats too many themes and concepts from the first book for me. It ultimately felt like it almost cheapens how rare and exciting the events of the first book are, if this story occurred basically along the same lines. Still very happy it exists though, but don‘t think I‘ll likely read more in this series.
The astonishing sequel to Children of Time, the award-winning novel of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

I think I know what's keeping me from posting much on Litsy. I don't have the motivation to snap pictures of the books I am reading. Time is so short these days and somehow, taking pictures of what I am reading is not so important. Ughhh maybe I should just post without pictures? I have read a couple really bad netgalleys recently, and I have read a lot of books this year I haven't posted about here...
Finished Children of Time a while ago because I wasn‘t ready to just dive into Book 2. They take a certain disposition for me to read...Do you find that certain books need you to be a certain headspace?

Tough reading week. Didn‘t get nearly as much done as I‘d hoped. So here‘s my new #weeklyforecast. Have about 1/4 of Children of Ruin left. I‘ve already started This Will Be My Undoing as well. So hopefully back on track this week.
#weeklyforecast I was 2 for 3 this past week. Tagged book is a bit of a chunkster, which I just started this morning, so expecting to finish it near end of the week and then start book I had hoped to tackle this past week but didn‘t get to.
I loved Children of Time so much, I was worried that this sequel wouldn't live up to the original. Instead, I am awestruck by this author's stunning originality and world building. I loved this book. I kind of regret reading it in furious gulps over one weekend, because now it's over!
This is the 2nd book in The Children of Time series. I put off reading because I have been disappointed enough times with sequels. I wish I hadn't because the 2nd was as good as the 1st. Fabulous characters and world building was out of this world (pun intended). Great plot that kept me interested the entire time. 5⭐

These are the books I want to read/finish this month. I hope to complete at least 2 audiobooks and 4 physical. Anything more will just be gravy!📚📚📚
This was an incredible book detailing an intergalactic and inter species journey of epic proportions. Only Tchaikovsky can make you question our purpose in life and our perception of it as well as providing gripping action in the same chapter. This book is long and hefty, often some of the concepts are not easy to grasp but it is well worth the effort. I have not been this absorbed in a book for a long time x
This sequel was amazing! I was so curious where the author would take the story after Children of Time and it was so fascinating. The ideas he has about different life and technology and ways of thinking are just so impressive. The narrator for the audiobooks is equally amazing. I will never hear the phrase "we're going on an adventure" again without being creeped out. I really suggest giving these books a try even if you're not big on scifi.
After falling in love with Children of Time, I could not wait for Children of Ruin. This site is simply unparalleled. The language is absolutely brilliant and his spectacular creatures are written in anthropomorphic perfection. Children of Ruin is a heady read - thick with deep science and theoretical contemplation. This is not for everyone. It does not move fast and is not purely action filled, but it will push the boundaries of your psyche.
Excited about this one. Can't wait to see where our evolved spider friends take us next.
I really really enjoyed this book! Portiids and Humans are now working together. On a spaceship, the combined crew stumbles into an unknown life form. I don‘t want to give away too much but we learn about the impact of a group of human terraformers who were busy working when they received the last transmission from Earth. I think I liked this book more than Children of Time. I recommend this series to all sci-fi fans.
I like that despite all things, humans and intelligent spiders can bond over complaining.
I pull this trick far too often at work. Senkovi is right, it works. 😁
In theory, I‘d dive into this before bed but I‘m gonna be honest, I forgot everything that happened in the first book. Whoopsie! Guess I‘ll look at a summary tomorrow.
Children of Ruin is the sequel to Children of Time. A novel that won the Arthur C. Clarke award in 2016. Adrian Tchaikovsky is a gifted writer and his thought experiments are fascinating. Children of Time: A ship sets out to land on a terraformed planet, ready for us humans. Only when we arrive, life is already there.
The sequel is just as magnificent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
