A Fatal Winter
A Fatal Winter: A Max Tudor Novel | G. M. Malliet
11 posts | 16 read | 8 to read
"There are certain things you want in a village mystery: a pretty setting, a tasteful murder, an appealing sleuth . . . Malliet delivers all that." Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Last year, Agatha Award-winning author G. M. Malliet charmed mystery lovers, cozy fans, and Agatha Christie devotees with Wicked Autumn, the first mystery featuring her captivating protagonist, Max Tudor, and the small English village of Nether Monkslip. In A Fatal Winter, MaxAnglican priest, former MI5 agent, and village heartthrobinvestigates two deaths at Chedrow Castle. But his growing attraction to Awena Owen complicates his case, as does the recent arrival at Chedrow Castle of a raucous group of long-lost, greedy relatives, any one of whom has a motive for murder. With a cozy setting, intricate puzzles, and a handsome (non-celibate) priest doing the sleuthing, the books in this series are destined to become instant classics in the mystery world.

Nice cozy with interesting characters and enough twists and turns to keep me guessing.

Book 2 in the Max Tudor series (#SeriesLove2023) and my first finish for #JoysofJune

Max, the local vicar and former MI5 agent, agrees to assist Inspector Cotton at Chedrow Castle, where Lord Footrustle has been found murdered and his sister found dead of a heart attack.

These are slow burn, methodical mysteries. They take a slower pace, but I enjoy the inside look at the characters. One almost feels like they are snooping sometimes.

I love this series. This is the second book in the series. It‘s a cozy small British village with a sexy vicar solving crimes. This one was set at a castle nearby and the family kept calling him Father Brown. I loved it.

Max gets called in to solve the crime by the local police. His relationship with Awena starts to grow as well. 💚

I‘m definitely going to keep going with this series.

robinb Hmmm. I've never heard of this series! I'll have to check it out. :)
I assume it would be best to begin at the beginning? LOL

Laughterhp @robinb This is the first one. But the series fizzled out for me and I stopped after the 4th book. 2y
robinb @Laughterhp Good to know, thanks! My attention caught on “sexy vicar”…😂😂😂 2y

#BookReport - Finished 3 books this past week.

I‘m currently listening to A Fatal Winter. This is the second book in the Max Tudor series. I also started my #LMPBC book for Round 11 romance group. I‘m not enough into it to say how it‘s going.

#WeeklyForecast - Start The Silent Patient. I‘m not sure the POV of it yet, but I might use it for #Booked2021 if it‘s the doctors. And After Me Comes the Flood is a debut for #TBRDeckofCards

Followed the first in the Max Tudor series quickly with the second- both available to me on the libby app. Max is involved in a series of murders at the castle- all the heirs are there when Lord FootRussell (I love her names) is killed. All the usual odd assortment of characters and a budding romance for the vicar. Excellent narration of the fun series!

Father Max is asked to help with a possible 2 murders @ the local castle, his also being a witness. This time he was easily led astray so will he be able to put all the puzzle pieces together?

🍊I would choose to read a charming book in which chapters are divided by lines from Christmas carols in September, in 90 degrees, and humidity that provides an ample dose of moisturizer to my face.

✈️But whatever, it's vacation and Max Tudor is awesome regardless of the season. (A teeny part of me wishes I waited until Nov/Dec to read this.)

✈️I've been MIA getting ready for this moment that occurred yesterday... many delays but finally vacation can start! Nothing like arriving to your bed at 2am... when you originally planned on a comfy bed arrival of 11pm. 😂

⛪️🔍🖌Max Tudor is always good company though...

☎️☕️I've plans for a lazy morning with coffee and checking up on all I've missed on Litsy!
