#adventrecommends Day 18
Another YA gem!
3.5 / 5🌟 This was good. The story was intriguing and I liked the magic, but it didn't consistently hold my interest.

Got this book for Christmas and am honestly so excited to read it. It's been on my reading list since I finished city of savages a few months ago. #acriminalmagic #cityofsavages #leekelly
I'm starting to think I shouldn't be allowed on my library's website at night. Does anyone else ever completely forget about having placed a hold on a book?
This book has an intriguing concept though (18th amendment prohibits magic, rather than alcohol) so I guess I make good choices while half-asleep
This is a really unique take on magic and Prohibition that had me on the edge of my seat! If you like urban fantasy or period fantasy, this one is for you! 🍸✨

I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds right up my alley. 1920s with magic. There is no way l can resist this!
I loved the setting and the premise of this book. Some parts were a little too rushed for my taste and there were a few times I almost put it down. I'm glad I stuck with it. It was a good read.
To quote a friend's review on Goodreads. "GANGSTERS. MAGIC DRUGS. MAGICAL SPEAKEASIES. UNDERCOVER GOVERNMENT AGENTS. ROGUE SORCERERS. DOUBLE CROSSING. TRIPLE CROSSING."
I used to live in Westerville and I can attest that there was no sorcery.
I just couldn't connect with this book. Neither the story nor the characters caught my attention. I finally gave up at the 180 page mark.
I wasn't wild about this one. The story wasn't as inventive as I hoped, but perhaps for a more gangsters enthusiast it might work.
It's a great trick when a book can make you root for an unlikeable character. A lot of reviews compare this to The Night Circus -which I didn't like- I far preferred this. There were hints of Scorcese and Boardwalk Empire. It was a great way to follow up The Crown's Game. Recommended.
I worked yesterday, so my long weekend reading starts......now
Still really into this one. Anyone else?

...and streetlamps act like glowing alchemists, turning the campus' cobblestone walkway into gold.
...if sorcery could find a way to bring me back in time
Imagine the prohibition act- except instead of alcohol being outlawed, it was MAGIC! Yes, this book IS just as amazing as it sounds. I LOVED it!
