The final battle between the free Fables of the mundane world and the Empire occupying their former Homelands is here! Bill Willingham's Eisner Award-winning, New York Times best-selling series comes to the deluxe hardcover format here in FABLES: THE DELUXE EDITION BOOK NINE in one of the most epic storylines in the series' long history. This deluxe edition collects FABLES issues #70-82.

Oof. I mean this series is accomplished in telling more complex stories than these fairy tale characters are usually provided with, but the tradeoff is that things can get dark, violent and sad. There were two funerals, and I cried at one. Tragically true to human history, the cost of war, the likelihood that the end of one conflict does not guarantee lasting peace. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality There's hope held out, but the end of this volume feels grim because the hope seems more like a story the fables are telling themselves, than anything with a wisp of evidence. At this point I'm reading on because things have to get better - I can't stand to think they could get worse. On the plus side, really quite enjoy Cinderella as a super spy. 2/2 7mo

I received Book 12 for Christmas and have spent this week reading all that came before. As much as I love these, I was not setting aside the time to read them as I received them for Christmas or birthdays. I'm up to Book 9. So happy to have a few more days off work. #fairytales
