This BookRiot article by Danika Ellis has me thinking about the DNF!

https://www.google.com/amp/s/bookriot.com/im-breaking-up-with-3-star-reads/amp/

Lindy I will abandon a book if I‘m not enjoying it, which is why I rarely have 1- or 2-star books on my goodreads shelf. If I give a book 3 stars, I can confidently say that I‘m glad to have read it, that it was worth my time. And I love the experience when a book that seemed like a 3-star read suddenly shifts up to 4 or 5 stars as I get further in. 3y
Kristin_Reads Good article! I count DNFs toward my pages read total but not book count total. That has freed me to put down a book at any point and not feel bad about it. (edited) 3y
Well-ReadNeck @lindy @Kristin_Reads Oooooh! It‘s so interesting to hear different ideas about this!!! 3y

marleed Oh interesting. I‘m typically interested in what I pick up to read and for a variety of reasons. I usually want to finish them but if tempted to DNF, I‘m curious to consider what it was about me or my mood that didn‘t connect so I keep reading on. Every once in a while I fall into something I‘m offended by and those I really need to DNF because they crawl into my psyche in a creepy way. 3y
rwmg Yhere are some books I realise are just not for me in the first 20 or 30 pages, there are others where at some point I will realise it's taking forever to finish because I would rather do almost anything than go back to it. 3y
Laughterhp I love this! Sometimes I know I‘m not going to love a book and I‘ll put it down. Other times I force myself to read books and it takes forever! I have a shelf on my goodreads to DNF books and it doesn‘t go towards my book count. 3y
JoyBlue Thanks for sharing! I have started DNFing much sooner and more often, myself. I still occasionally read too long into a book that's not cutting it for me. I think I'll take this to heart.

I do the same thing as @Kristin_Reads in terms of keeping track of my DNF pages even though I don't count those books in my total books read count. It doesn't show up on Goodreads, but at least *I know* the truth.
