Mehso-so

Meh... Lots of action but not a ton of substance in this one, which used to be fine for me but alas, my reading tastes- they are a-changing. About 1% of the population are born as “brilliants”-people with special gifts. The regular folks are feeling threatened, etc. I was underwhelmed by most of it. Predictable with flat characters.

4.5/5
Around the 1980‘s, a percentage of the population being born had savant-like capabilities. They became known as “Brilliants”. Fast forward 30 years in the future and “normal” people are becoming afraid of a world run by Brilliants. It‘s as much social commentary as it is entertainment. The last chapters of the book had my heart racing. So glad it‘s a trilogy and I get to continue living in the world for a while.

The Brilliance Trilogy: all 3 sci fi thrillers are more than 60% off! $1.99 Kindle Sale on each book, or only $5.37 if you buy them together!

Gillian Flynn, the bestselling author of Gone Girl, called the Brilliance series “Ridiculously good.” That‘s what we think about this sale. The series has been on our TBR ever since it came out, nominated for the Edgar, Lovey, Sideways, and Prometheus awards. Yes, all of them.

A good read for fans of action thrillers and dystopian fiction. While a bit predictable at times, I enjoyed the story and characters. The best thing about the story is the brilliants vs. normals issue and how was depicted...from discrimination (brilliants are harassed or forced into hiding because ‘normal‘ people feel inferior) to government control (laws passed to microchip brilliants). I definitely plan to continue on with the series!

So I've mostly been listening to my books since my commute is nearly and hour a day. This series was fantastic, AU where in the early 80s, a mutation formed making people "Brilliant" in some way or another. A very Heroes feel, or X-men without the superhero thing.

If X-Men (Comics and movies)and Heroes (TV show) made a book baby, then this would be it. The plot is nothing new, mutant super people being better than the normals. But ... the writing was amazing. Seriously, the best thing I've read this year. I was sad when I finished.

Ugh. Read this because it came so highly recommended... by an Amazon employee... and it's published by Amazon. Trite, ridiculous, and boring "thriller."
