Cynthia Hand, I hate you! Not really, but I was doing so well until the last 2 minutes of the audiobook, then my heart was pounding and I just burst into tears with seconds to go. Then it was over and there was no confirmed resolution! It just stopped! If you can‘t tell, I loved the book. Not really a spoiler. You should read/listen to it anyway. ##9 #BookSpinBingo #11 #AlmostAChunksterChallenge 464 pgs #BFC22 #Buzzwordathon #WintersRespite

As an adoptive mother, I entered this story tentatively, hoping it was treated well ¬ the usual media story of adoption.&to be honest, I almost quit it as some stuff immediately rubbed me the wrong way.But the author is an adoptee,&so I committed to hearing her voice,&I‘m glad I did.She gives an honest look at all the members of the adoption triad(adoptee, birth parents, &adoptive parents)If you needed an argument for open adoption, this is it.

behudd @TheAromaofBooks this was my June #bookspin book! 4y
TheAromaofBooks As someone with an adopted sister, I've been meaning to read this one. It feels like a topic that's only addressed in fiction in a dramatic way - either an adoption that was perfect, or an adoption that was evil. I'm interested to read a story with a more nuanced look at the process & how it impacts everyone involved. 4y
behudd @TheAromaofBooks I do think you‘ll find that here! Once I got over my initial impression, I was really happy with the story. It was clearly told by someone who has lived it. 4y
Nute Stacking based on your review and the desire to hear an honest voice of representation on foster care settings. 3y
behudd @Nute There actually is no foster care shown in this one. The main character is adopted as an infant. I think it‘s still worth the read, tho it is very YA in tone, so be prepared for that. (edited) 3y

I don‘t know why this book hasn‘t gotten more buzz, but it was SO GOOOOOD. Young Adult lit at its best! The main theme was adoption. It was also about best friends, family, facing a loss, deciding what to do after high school, and more. The author has a great ear for believable dialogue for the teens and the parents. She also perfectly captured the atmosphere of high school theater, the characters‘ main hobby. I really connected with this book. 💗

LiteraryinPA Be prepared for crying. Sometimes laughing tears and sometimes sad tears. Such a good read! 5y

I gave this book all the stars. This book gave me all the feels. Cass has always known that she was adopted. She has amazing parents who she loves. But she has started wondering who her birth mother was. She doesn‘t want to hurt her family but she wants to know. With the support of her parents she starts the journey of finding her birth mom. What she doesn‘t know is her birth mom has written her letters and she can finally get them. 👇🏻👇🏻

Lovesbooks87 This book was so emotional. I am so pleased with how the whole book played out all the way to the ending. I am glad that she was able to get the answers that she was searching for. 5y
Tamra Is this nonfiction? We have open communication with birth parents, even though there can be very long periods of absence because of transcontinental distance. We were recently delighted to have unexpected communication with one of our birth mothers, especially since my daughter had been asking/wondering. It really is important. 👍🏾😊 5y
Tamra I should say however I know of one parent who has not even told their child they are adopted. 😐 5y

Lovesbooks87 @Tamra it is fiction. The author who wrote the book was adopted. The book is based in Idaho and they really did have a letter writing program where the birth mothers could leave letter for their unborn babies. My sister was adopted and grew up knowing her family. It was an in family adoption and my mom has a closed one and always wondered about it family. She was lucky to find her birth family 20 years ago. So I can understand how important it is! 5y
Tamra @Lovesbooks87 that is very lucky! Even if the relationships aren‘t close, it fills in gaps of identity. 5y
LiteraryinPA I stacked this book based on your review, and I just finished it and LOVED IT!!! 💗 Thanks for the recommendation! That‘s why I love Litsy! 5y
Lovesbooks87 @LiteraryinLititz this makes my heart so happy! I am so glad that you loved it as much as I did! 💜💜💜 5y

This book cover is unlike any other by Cynthia Hand. Shes probably most well known for her My Lady Jane book and series. No idea what this one is about, but I love the two tones that are strictly broken down the middle. No fade, no shadow. Just A stark black and white feeling, but in full vivid color.
