Oh. I loved it! What a twist again! I could never guess who done it.

Okay, last review for the day! I finished this yesterday.

A Superintendent Battle book (though he does mention Poirot). This was a pretty good mystery, I did not guess who the killer was!

Neville, his ex wife and new wife all go down to stay at his aunts house for September. One day his aunt is killed and all the evidence clearly points to one person. Too obviously. So the cops all work to determine who the actual killer is.

Two things I love about this novel: the unique way the story unfolds and the very interesting elderly characters. Superintendent Battle is also pretty cool in this one.

The main thing I dislike doesn't come until the very end, and it's such a typical eye-roll-inducing Christie thing, I just sigh and let it happen.

Then there's a super hilarious part that I'll mention in a spoiler comment.

The last and 5th in the Superintendent Battle series. He gave way to Hercule Poirot I think. My favourite character Bundle was just in 2 books about the country house Chimneys . This book had so many twists and turns. Light crime reading. Just what I need sometimes. I‘m off now to see how many of the books on the Stella short list I can read.

I'm so glad to have given Agatha Christie another chance and not to have quit after the collection of short stories I tried first! I loved this novel and the colorful characters she created. Now I'm looking forward to more of her work. Finished this one up on our rainy road trip.

I‘ve been reading this in my phone during lunch at work. I like Superintendent Battle, & this is the last one he is featured in. It was ok, but I didn‘t really care about the characters or mystery that much. 3 ⭐️

An invalid old lady is battered to death in her bed. Superintendent Battle investigates.

The subject of the book is not so much the murder as the events leading up to it and so we are more than halfway through the book before the murder comes. A lot of the time it all felt very familiar as if I'd read it before, although I don't remember doing so, but I still didn't manage to work out whodunnit.

I was really enjoying this one right up until the last 20 pages or so and then it was like someone else wrote the ending and very badly. I thought I was going mad and had missed a bunch of chapters. The twists and turns were fun, and I loved seeing all the threads come together, but that ending… Bizarre. 🥴

Finished! A fun mystery where a lot of different characters‘ lives and choices all set in motion certain things to happen in the lives of others, making everything go hurdling towards the zero hour. Not my favorite, but still enjoyable and still an unexpected ending at the end. Ready to send on to you Denise! 😁

Between my LIS grad program starting, getting a new director at our library (she's awesome and a friend, and lemme tell you she has NOT had an easy start), and an aggressive amount of depression and anxiety for the last few months, I've read.... 2 books this year. Headed to the porch to take advantage of the nice weather with Agatha Christie.

It was ok ... I kind of new who the killer was and that made it a little bit boring for me ☹️😊 Es war nicht das spannendste Buch dieses Jahr aber trotzdem unterhaltsam 🙂

Ok I️ have been so tempted by everyone‘s reading of Christie books lately so I went rumbling through my books today to find the ones I started buying at age fifteen. I found a small stack of them and will work them in with all the other books on my TBR. I love, love her books. They are always full of mysteries and lovely English houses. Can‘t wait to dive back in.

A Christie mystery with a bit of a (different kind of) twist - the murder doesn't happen until towards the end. And I still couldn't figure out the culprit. In other words, another excellent entry in the Christie bibliography.

This was quite the disappointment, especially for a Christie. It's a lot of waiting for crime to happen, which occurred midway through the book. Even then, the investigation seemed to go slow. Plus, the whole romance plot really didn't interest me. I couldn't connect with any of the characters, including our investigator Battle. All in all, skip this book and go read (or watch) a Christie starring Poirot. Now that's a detective. 🔍⭐️⭐️
