~A Year In Books - Favorites of 2020~
Day 7: Favorite Book of July:
All These Monsters - Amy Tintera
July saw me finishing up the Expanse (until Book 9, the last) and starting the Harry Potter series, with Rebel and ATM in between. All These Monsters was excellent, I‘m a fan of all things Tintera.
So I didn't love this as much as I loved the Ruined trilogy but I enjoyed it more than Reboot. I wasn't super crazy about the romance to start but as the book went on, I realized it was being used for a purpose and not an “OTP love at first sight.“ I do wish the author would have extended the timeline because it seemed a little ridiculous all this happened over the course of like 2 weeks.
TW: gaslighting
I loved the other 2 series I read by Amy Fingers so I have high hopes for this one!
All in all, this was a unique, fast-paced, and interesting read. I loved how the author chose to end things and the sense of empowerment she kept building within Clara. I‘m definitely looking forward to All These Warriors and I‘m hoping to see all sorts of monsters get their just desserts!

“No one really knew who I was, which had once seemed like a good thing. Now it felt like the world was crafting a narrative for me. Like they had a story prepared if I didn‘t tell it myself.”
My little monster, Delilah, has a biopsy on Monday.🤞
I've been a fan of Amy Tintera's works in the past, I really liked the Reboot Duo...but maybe I need to be more discerning when it comes to the YA I choose to read...because I wasn't really feeling this...it just felt too YA for me. The dialogue felt rather cheesy and the actions of the characters felt off...I'm going to with this being a case of it's not you (the book), it's me (me). Since there are already plenty of readers who've liked it.
Here‘s my kind of, maybe, totally subject to change TBR for August. I am also trying to get caught up on some long neglected digital review copies on NetGalley so I‘ll hopefully get through a couple of those, as well. And I have a couple other books that are not yet in my possession that I hope yo read in August: This Is My America (released today!) and True Story. There will likely be a few audiobooks in here, too. #augusttbr #toberead
An amazing thrill ride from start to finish. Teen protagonist Clara lives in a world where feral monsters called scrabs are invading most of Europe. Hoping to escape her abusive family, she joins a ragtag team of monster hunters and discovers a conspiracy in the process. A YA book you don't want to put down, this homage to Buffy meets Starship Troopers is one to pick up.
Earlier today I thought it would be fun to have my little ferret, Delilah, help me pick two of my birthday books that I can fit in with other reading obligations to enjoy next month. I filmed a video and she did exceptionally well with her role. In fact, she momentarily posed on All These Monsters and few things combine more perfectly than a book with the word “monsters” in the

The Bag slammed into my body, and I hit the mat with a grunt.
Loving this book!

1) Umm...what‘s an accessory? Lol...I have a belt...? My closets are basically storage.
2) I‘ve been to the sandy deserty region of Eastern Oregon and Southeastern Washington state. And I guess maybe the Badlands in South Dakota.
3) All These Monsters! I love this book and her stuff including the Ruined Trilogy and Reboot, have Rebel (Reboot 2), that‘s next!

“Clara, get dressed. You can tell people you got shot and saw the Eiffel Tower for the first time all in the same day”
“Usually you need to be in America to see a major historical landmark and get shot in the same day.”
After weeks of reading the entire Expanse series, (books 1-8, ~4,422 pages), finally completely caught up until the 9th and final book comes out. It‘s quite exhausting focusing on one series from the beginning, especially a long one, and plowing through them all one after another. Finishing is like coming up for air.
On to All These Monsters! Been waiting for this one.
Amy Tintera is officially an autobuy author now. I love this story so much and I‘m so upset I have to wait a whole year for the conclusion. Clara is such a badass, and even though she refuses to believe in herself, everyone around her continues to boost and support her. This story has such depth, great monsters (both real and imagined), and excellent fight scenes.
