This was a good book, the story line was easy to follow even when I missed aspects of the story. The author did a good job of character development and discussing colonization as a very real and very key part to the story. I lived how one of the main character understand t
His role in that colonization and then when he has power works to undo the harm that his people have caused to others in the kingdom. Well done

Bailedbailed

I know this will not align with other reviews but when I read a disturbing expression connected to animals, I bailed. I also found it too long with too many different characters.
I'm still waiting for #BOTM to get here so I'm behind in one book for a #Bingo

TheAromaofBooks Sometimes you just gotta let a book go!!! Also - bails count as far I'm concerned - the whole idea is to get books of your list/shelf, so if you're ditching this one, check it off your list!!! (edited) 4y

You can do anything if you hate someone enough. You can do anything if you love someone enough. I just need a moment to acknowledge these lines being said by two distinct characters to one character. One to destroy, one showing love.

The story building was amazing. The politics got a little confusing sometimes of who invaded who, but it all came down to each person from their separate country eventually working together. The diversity between the characters backstories was nice; a thief, a to be crown prince, a runaway princess turned inspector, a sergeant who keeps fighting. To which all went smoothly with the plot. How it ended, even with its 520 pages, hope theres sequel

About half way done and it‘s really getting going now. We‘ve also seen two girls get together, and two boys get together (one is trans!) so there‘s that going on. The story itself flageles so real. Between the 4 nations I sometimes get lost who‘s doing what, but it seems all the people are at each other because of what one country did to all the others. The duos finally are together, so we‘ll see what happens with their varied views. #lgbtq

Bookworms unite!! This is my new favorite reason for doing anything. Princess Xiulan rescinded a criminal from prison and is going off on this grand adventure because she wants to be like her hero detective, and to spite her sister. I didn‘t like her before, pompas royal attitude, but this is really bringing out the more human side of her. Lee is asking good questions now.

Alright. This is quite a world of people who can bend their soul into metal and control it. Where you can share your soul with an animal and make it your own “shade”. Which it seems some see those animals as slaves. There‘s so much going on it‘s a little difficult to see where each character is. I think i get those four major players. I really like Lee and Tala so far. Both girls have such stark views on the world. I love the diversity already

It's such a relief to find fantasy that isn't yet another version of eurocentric medievalness. And when the characters are complex and nuanced and human, while living in a magical world? And when there's true diversity (age, gender, sexuality, personal history and backstory, ethnicity and culture, voice, etc)? And when the story is so good? Blown away.

Okay I can't for the life of me put together a good summary of this book. There's just so much going on, In a rare twist, I think my favourite part of this book was the wrap up...where authors notoriously let me down. It's cool, it's complex, it can be dense at some parts but I overall really enjoyed this

Things have really begun to spiral so I have a feeling I am in for a late night. Seems like a good excuse to dig out my new cup so I can stay hydrated while I read.

The library I work in has an adult summer reading challenge and I've challenged myself to complete two lines
I chose Steel Crow Saga as my 'book by an author you haven't read before' and it was an amazing start. Second and third books, bit more meh.

I also got this beautiful book from an anonymous benefactor via Portal Bookshop! http://portalbookshop.com/

They had a Christmas tree with "baubles" which were book requests made by various customers. I paid for two books off the tree and then someone got me one in return! ?

Clare-Dragonfly How lovely, and what a beautiful book! 5y

It‘s almost time for #Jolabokaflod and I am SO excited! This year: 1) The tagged book with Riesen chocs for Eldest Daughter; 2) Searching for Sunday with dark choc-covered strawberries for Youngest Daughter; 3) Dumbledore‘s Choc wand and a choc frog plus Johnson‘s Land of Wolves for The Hubs; 4) The Line Becomes a River with a milk choc caramel bar for me. What would be YOUR book-and-Choc #Jolabokaflod pairing this year?

I hadn't heard of this book before the cover happened to catch my eye at the bookstore. I took a chance on it, and I am immensely glad that I did because this has been one of the best fantasy books I've read this year! Super unique story and worldbuilding, flawed characters that evolve so much throughout the course of the book, animal partners, and queer multifaceted protagonists. Boom. All of this added up to a story that I could not put down! 💕

The boyfriend took me on an afternoon date to Barnes and Noble today! I got an apple spice drink in the cafe and then he ended up getting me these two beauties! 😍📚💕 Have any of you fantasy fans read the tagged book? I haven't heard of it until today but it looks absolutely amazing! And it has a high rating on goodreads! I'm very excited to read it! #bookhaul

Yesterday morning, I went looking for my beloved book scrunchie, and ended up spending the whole day cleaning my office. Last night, I decided not to set my alarm for the morning, and ended up sleeping for 14 hours. Tonight, I am planning on starting this book after I finish my work - what will happen instead, lol?? Cupcakes? Money? Very small rocks? (P.S. The release date on the cover is no longer correct. It‘s now out September 24.) 💙💙💙

CareBear That cover!! 😍 5y
