Ink in the Blood
Ink in the Blood | Kim Smejkal
Two friends who use tattoo magic to send divine messages must rely on one another to survive when they discover the fake deity they serve is very real--and very angry. This dark and twisty YA is perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Kendare Blake.

This book was too fast paced for my liking in the beginning and end and too slow in the middle. I had no clue what was going on half the time. At most parts, I was like “oh they‘re dead. Ok.” It wasn‘t a great book. But props to it for being casually inclusive of gender identities. 2.5⭐️

This is like The Night Circus but with a creepy horror plot. Pros: really excellent world-building. Extra bonus points for the fact that gender & sexuality was visible through your aura, & everyone existed on a spectrum of colors. So nobody was othered, everybody just was. Cons: the plot ran away from me...a lot. I was intrigued by what was going on, but also very very confused more than half the time. ★★★☆☆.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️
I found the pacing to be slow and boring. I didn‘t understand how the tattoos worked for inspiration/magic. Like I know they transfer from one person to another, but I didn‘t understand how they were magical. I did like the friendship and the traveling theater troupe.

#38 of my year. Been meaning to read this one since it came out. Haven‘t heard too much about it yet so I‘m kinda nervous lol 🤓📖🎶

Caffeinated_Reader Ugh only read 35 pages because my son came up and had 2 packets of school work that were due today and he needed help 🙇🏻‍♀️ homeschooling is the worst lol I‘ll read more tomorrow 😴 (edited) 5y
Caffeinated_Reader First of all this book has quickly taken first as my favorite read of the year. This was beyond anything I expected and was absolutely what I needed to read. The humor of the story is what puts this in first place for me. The witty banter between Celia and Griffin was swoonable and perfect. I loved every word written and inked. Infinite stars of praise. 5y

About to finish this ARC of Ink in the Blood. I have mixed feelings about it so far, but that could be due to the fact that it has taken me forever to read. I started a new job after the new year and my reading rate has suffered immensely. This will make five books for February, which feels like failure to me. Here‘s hoping March is better!

Bklover Hope you are enjoying the new job! 5y
