All the Greys on Greene Street
All the Greys on Greene Street | Laura Tucker
15 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
A beautifully written award contender in the spirit of When You Reach Me. Until last week, twelve-year-old Olympia loved her life. She loved watching her artist mother and art restorer father do their work. She loved climbing the buildings of SoHo with her best friend Alex and creating monsters with her other best friend Richard. And she loved to draw it all. But last week, Olympia's father fled to France in the middle of the night, leaving only a cryptic note he told her to destroy after reading, and her mother sank into bed and won't get up. Now Olympia must solve the mystery of why her gentle, down-to-earth father would disappear so abruptly--and who else is trying to find him. She wants to protect both her parents, but when the truth about her mother becomes impossible to hide any longer, Olympia's forced to choose between keeping her parents' secrets and saving her own life.

#mgbuddyread just for fun

mrp27 A library! 3y
Butterfinger I have always said I want to be buried with my World Book Encyclopedias. Wouldn't that be funny to watch the pallbearers carry? That's not funny. 3y

mrp27 I don‘t have any experience or expertise with mental illness but this rang true for me making me feel that this would be helpful as a resource for families going through this. I‘m so glad that so many issues are now being addressed in mg lit. Representation is imperative. 3y

Sorry I‘m a day late posting. Only have a few questions this go around. Feel free to discuss anything else you‘d like about this #mgbuddyread.

mrp27 I was a little surprised there wasn‘t more about the dad and by more I mean interaction. He was just always off in France. 3y

#mgbuddyread

Between a pick and a so-so. The writing was great and there were interesting bits about being an artist. I love that mg books are now addressing so many diverse topics, this one includes mental illness, but the pacing for me was too slow and I got bored. I had to force myself to pick it back up. Still a worthy read if you don‘t mind the pacing.

With the help of friends and her community, Olympia navigates her parents‘ separation and mother‘s depression. This would be a helpful addition to any middle grade classroom library to help children know they are not alone when facing similar problems. Looking forward to #mgbuddyread discussion this Saturday. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

I feel like this book had great potential but... it tried to do too many things at once. I loved individual parts of the story but again.. they were just too much!

I love cottage cheese! All this hatred for cottage cheese!

JudeCC I LOVE it, but I've never had it with peas!!! I should try it one day! 3y
Clwojick I‘m not huge on peas, especially canned… but I love cottage cheese with a little PB and jam. It tastes like dessert! 3y
5feet.of.fury I try to convince myself I like cottage cheese, I want to like it… I don‘t like it haha. 3y

wanderinglynn I can‘t get paste the texture. And the color 🥴 3y
tokorowilliamwallace It goes in my oatmeal, atop my protein pancakes, and spread on rice cakes. 3y
mandarchy It's good with saltines or potato chips. I get Nancy's Probiotic Cottage cheese and mix it with tuna instead of mayo and make a tuna melt - so healthy and delicious. I mix it into my scrambled eggs, too. 3y
ElizaMarie @WJCintron I really enjoy it with pees or using it as a dip with a Dorito. But really more so the peas. --- Try it, let me know what you thought? 3y
ElizaMarie @Clwojick Ooo never heard of it with PB and Jam! I gotta try that. Like you mix it? I am having a hard time picturing this! 3y

ElizaMarie @5feet.of.fury Haha ! I get you. I try to convince myself I like syrup, gravy, pancakes, cereal ... It feels like I should like these “staples“ in people's diet but I just cant! Ooo and pudding! I can't. 3y
ElizaMarie @wanderinglynn, I get that. That's my problem with pudding. 3y
ElizaMarie @tokorowilliamwallace Oooo, great ideas! 3y
ElizaMarie @mandarchy YES !!! I mean, I like it with Doritos sometimes because they have that little cheese residue. I never had it with tuna, though. 3y
mandarchy @ElizaMarie the kind I use with tuna is sharp like cheddar, so that helps. 3y
JudeCC @ElizaMarie I definitely will!! Mmmm with Doritos, why didn't I think of that? 😂 3y
Clwojick Yeah, just add some cottage cheese into a bowl with a spoonful each of PB and jam, and then give it a quick stir. 3y

This was recommended on the news for #ArtAppreciationMonth , the reviews here are on the “so-so“ side, but we will see. It will be my next #AudioCommute book

I really liked the setting of this one in an artist‘s community in NYC. I think if the author had stuck with the story of mom‘s depression or the mystery, it would have been great. But together, there was just too much going on. #MiddleGradeMarchThroughTime

This book was blurbed as a mystery but the mystery was lost in an avalanche of other issues. It was overstuffed and the ending felt like a sigh of exhaustion. The story wasn‘t bad. It just needed to be pared down a bit. Also, the mother was in a state of clinical depression so severe she had rarely gotten out of bed in two weeks but was said to be “taken care of” at home by another adult which I find an irresponsible portrayal of the situation.

LibrarianRyan I like cottage cheese. 5y
ljuliel I have odd eating habits . If a food doesn‘t look good, I won‘t even taste it. Cottage cheese is in that CATEGORY. Many years ago, a couple invited us to their house for supper. She made lasagna with cottage cheese , some other casserole with cottage cheese , baked chicken with some sort of cottage cheese coating floating in it , jello with cottage cheese , with a side dish of cottage cheese . YUK. I‘m guessing she bought a 5 gallon bucket of it 5y
megnews @ljuliel holy moly!!! 5y
megnews @LibrarianRyan somebody has to 😁 5y
SaturnDoo I'm with @LibrarianRyan I like it. Both of my kids love it and I think it's my 2 yr old grandson's favorite food lol 5y

Sometimes the publisher/marketing team does a book no favors & that‘s the case with this MG debut. It is, as a result, difficult to review. There is little forward momentum to the story outlined on the dust jacket & that is disappointing. There is, however, a nuanced examination of mental health & what happens not only to individuals but also their families. Not entirely what I expected—less adventure & mystery & more about family relationships.

It shows 1 litten has already read this. Maybe they can tell us what its about. Seems a bit dark.
