Lila Nova never imagined her desires could prove so dangerous. And she never dreamed of the exotic turn her life is about to take. Stumbling across a steamy New York laundromat overgrown with ferns, Lila is captivated by the strange owner, Armand. More interested in plants than laundry, in Lila he recognises an untapped energy. A kindred spirit. When Lila betrays his confidence and his livelihood is destroyed, she offers to do anything to make amends, never expecting that his response will lead her to the Yucatn. Through the isolation, mysticism and adventure of the Mexican rainforest, Lila's eyes are finally opened. And what she discovers about herself is both terrifying and exhilarating.

I really enjoyed escaping to the Yucatán Peninsula during a stressful week with this fun & adventurous story about plants. Although I had a few issues with the story, I would still recommend it to plant lovers. It convinced me that an orchid is easy to take care of so I bought this one. Wish me luck!

TheRiehlDeal That's good to know that orchids are easy to care for. Because whenever a plant or flowers come into my house, it dies. Or one of my two cats eats it. 4y
PaperbackPirate It‘s still alive @Josee.a.lu.lit.et.lira ! 🙌 4y

🌸 My goal is to finish my current read (tagged). I have less than 100 pages to go & it‘s so good!
🧜🏽‍♀️ I would also love to read half of The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock. I‘m reading it for book club which is 2 weeks from today!
This month is super busy because school just started, so I appreciate the push.
Wishing you an #AwesomeAugust !

I throughly enjoyed this quirky contemporary fairy tale. Lila faces challenges, tasks to complete, temptation, mistakes, and adventures on her quest. Great story if you can roll with its oddities: Lila is not particularly likable, the dialogue and story arcs can be a bit cheesily new age-ish, and the author plays fast and loose with (possibly stereotypical?) concepts of Mexican spiritual realism.

Obviously I'm a plant person. This book was in the free library at local coffee shop, I excitedly took it home. Weird but I was intrigued by plant lore. Then let's just say if you are animal lover you will be appalled. Skimmed last few Chapters. Unlikeable main character got even more unlikable, crazy people crazier, and then there's a even weirder ending. If it wasn't for the plant portion of the book it would have been a total waste of time.

DivineDiana Fabulous plants!!! 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana Thank you! I try to make them happy. 6y
AlwaysForeverReading I ❤️ plants too!!!!! 6y
Freespirit What a lovely space😍 6y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Freespirit It's my happy place. Always a bit bittersweet in Spring when all the plants move to deck and it's just got few cactus left inside. 6y

I really enjoyed this book. The language of flowers was beautiful and the author turned flowers into embodiment of human desire. I listened as an audiobook and hearing the words made it even lovelier.
