25 posts | 14 read | 6 to read
In We Are the Gardeners, Joanna and the kids chronicle the adventures of starting their own family garden. From their failed endeavors, obstacles to overcome (bunnies that eat everything!), and all the knowledge they've gained along the way, the Gaines family shares how they learned to grow a happy, successful garden. As it turns out, trying something new isn't always easy, but the hardest work often yields the greatest reward. There are always new lessons to be learned in the garden! You and your children can learn all about the Gaines family's story of becoming gardeners in Joanna's first childrens bookstarting with the first little fern Chip bought for Jo. Over the years, the family's love for gardening blossomed into what is now a beautiful, bustling garden. Julianna Swaney's illustrations bring the Gaines family garden to life with colorful, whimsical watercolors and invite you to enjoy the beauty of a thriving garden.

This book was a cute true story about how gardening and beautiful plants can create a bond between family members. It also teaches about the life cycle of plants, so it is both entertaining and educational for children.

This book not only teaches children about how to grow a garden but also what it means to be patient, hardworking, and determined. Real important life lessons are spread throughout this book that can be overlooked so I think this is a great boo =k to have children read or have read to them.

This seems like a cute book and one that I would pull out in springtime and maybe even do a little science experiment with.

This book tells the story about how a family started gardening and things did not go as planned. The lesson here is that everything changes and starting new things is not always easy.

This kid‘s book made me smile on every single page! Through their creation of a garden, this family teaches important lessons about the rewards of hard work and resilience: “A garden is hard work, but so is most of the good, important stuff in life.” Isn‘t that just wonderful? And what better time to follow their advice, get back to nature and create something wonderful?

#LetsTravelJuly Day 10: Let us take a peek at Joanne Gaines and her children‘s #Garden. Fats‘ review: “If you enjoy watching shows on HGTV and are an avid follower of Fixer Upper, then you would be familiar with Joanna Gaines, who is one half of the couple who hosts the show. Told in the perspective of Joanna‘s kids, this tells the story of how the Gaines children developed a love for gardening.” Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-kvc

🌷🍓If you like the TV show Fixer Upper, We are the Gardeners might be the book for you because it was written by Joanna Gaines and her children. This NF picture book is currently number one on the New York Times Best Seller for Children‘s Picture books. We are the Gardeners tells the adventures that the Gaines family went on when they decided to create their own family garden. It would make a great RA for kindergarten or first grade!#LAE3415sp19

ha_kaye The illustrations done by Julianna Swaney are beautiful and compliment the story perfectly. Since this book was published on March 26, 2019; I was not able to find any specific class activities. I did find a fantastic website that provides lesson plans on incorporating hands-on learning through gardening. https://kidsgardening.org/lesson-plans/ 6y
ha_kaye EL strategy 46, use discovery learning activities (hands-on-activities) would be perfect if a hands-on lesson on gardening followed the reading of this book. UDL principle 1.1, offer ways of customizing the display of information, would tie the literature aspect of the story and the science aspect of the hands-on gardening activity together.
