I told a friend at work I wanted a horror manga read so he suggested this series. Apparently the author died suddenly last year but he left behind a serious body of work. The artwork is stunning and the story delivers on horror and paranormal fronts.

Berserk was one of those rare special pieces of art and story that impacted people around the world in significant ways. It's dark, gothic, fantasy escape was a staple of my reading for as long as I can remember.⁣

I was so sad to hear of this mangakas passing, and while the world is a better place having his story in it, it is surely a duller world now having him gone.⁣

Puck and Guts are my favorite characters from this series. Puck gives readers insight into Guts tough and cold personality. The series really picks up when entering the Golden Age arc, and Guts is background story very tragic and heavy. Miura hits on dark fantasy elements that maintains a realistic sense of a world in chaos and with no hope while adding in comedic relief, and he adds deep layers to his characters #manga

Appreciate so much that Miura illustrates how Guts obtained certain scars, and the Golden Age is pretty essential to understanding how and when Guts becomes The Black Swordsman...pretty brutal how he gained the scar on his nose #manga

Miura puts a lot detail, shading, and texture in the demons he draws. Feels like I'm watching a scene out of Hellraiser...I wonder if the movie was one of inspirations for his the demons he designed in his series?! #manga

I love the different facial expressions of Puck. It gives a comedic relief to a lot of the seriousness and tragedy that happens in Berserk. I wonder if Miura was inspired by other works of tragedy that use comedic tecnhiques when he started creating Berserk. #manga

I love Puck! Going back through the beginning of Berserk, Puck is really the one person who helps readers see the true side of Guts, he aids in chipping away the darkness that has surrounded Guts, like a tie to Guts conscious and humanity. Also, he's really silly and cute! #manga

Reading these monster volumes of Berserk tonight! I've really wanted to revisit the world of Berserk for some time now---AND I need to return these volumes back to my brother asap #manga

Got the second omnibus recently, which spurred me to finally finish book one. Know the Golden Age arc from the original anime, but it's interesting to see what parts were changed.

This is sold out freaking everywhere! It just came out this week and luckily I managed to track 1 copy down at a bookstore across the city. Picked it up this morning first thing before work.

Berserk is one of my favorite #manga and while these deluxe editions aren't cheap IMO they are worth every cent!

I can't wait to own them all. ❤️
