I think this may be the best collection of short stories that I have ever read. I‘m stunned! I have no words to describe the words that Haslett has used to transport me to other places. Exquisite? Perfect? I give up. Thanks for the rec @Liberty !

Starting from the rollicking punch that begins this story collection you know that with Haslett you are in masterful hands. Although his ability to render the lives of those with mental illness as both comical and tragic stands out, his gifts are no less apparent when treating matters of loss, sibling bonds, or even the supernatural. I must read everything he has written. #shortfiction #mentalillness #teaandbooks

I'm ready to see what the hype is all about. I've heard nothing but good things about this short story collection. Any of you have any opinions to share?

BooksForEmpathy I just read his newest book and loved it. I think I want to read more - please wrote a review of this! 9y
ramyasbookshelf @BooksForEmpathy I'm about halfway through. The stories deal with aging, illness (mainly mental) and loneliness.. Strong themes and very well written. Kinda on the darker side. I can't see it going bad after this. 9y

BooksForEmpathy And thank you! I was strongly moved by his depictions of mental illness and how lonely that experience is in the newest book...and so this collection seems perfect. I like the darker side of things... 9y

"You're beautiful," she says.
He glances back along the corridor, then down at the floor. "That's cool," he mutters.
