This book did something to feed my soul. The writing is beautiful, the authors story is traumatic and triumphant. She is both humble and filled with wonder and grief all at once. I keep thinking about this book and doubt I‘ll find something like it anytime soon.

The stages of the pandemic have influenced my reading life in unexpected ways.

While I‘ve always wished I had more time to read, the beginning of lockdown was one of the times in my life when I read the least! Now, as the pace of life changes again, I‘m struggling anew. I was super into nature writing for awhile but apparently that time is over.

It makes sense that an upended routine would interrupt my normal flow…but it‘s still surprising!

“What edges out the worry, of course, is the wonder.”

Houston‘s talking about how the Winter affects her farm & her animals, here, but I think the quote is applicable in a much broader sense. ✨

My #NFN2020 stack! I think I‘ll pick up Deep Creek today. Something gentle would be a good tonic. I actually watched Episode One of a documentary this week too, so hopefully I‘ll have a few points to add up on Sunday, but it‘s just fun to participate and engage.

The documentary was the Netflix Challenger doc. Very good so far. +10 points.

I‘m excited for my Friday night plans- new book, chocolate, and a very early bedtime.

This beautiful memoir resonates with me in so many ways... I am so thankful to have read this when I did.

I‘m not an outdoorsy person. I respect the environment and I loved nature, but mostly from afar. But it‘s just too beautiful a day not to be out in it.

Library haul 😁

I had to take a break from reading the tagged book after the Fenton chapter. The combo of Houston‘s stories about her dog and her optimistic celebration of earth wrecked me. After that chapter I had to go give my girls some hugs and a long walk (after I dried the tears). ❤️❤️

Reading for a book club. While I‘m not much on essays of ranch life unless its something like Owning it All by Bill Kittredge. But I‘m enjoying her writing and her honest and painful recounting of her family history. Doing the audio book.

My first Pam Houston (so, I live on the East Coast and under a rock, apparently. All of my Western US friends can‘t believe I haven‘t read her before). The writing is so gorgeous. I loved this memoir-in-essays.

Wonderful book!

My first author/book signing event I‘ve attended and it was great. I was able to read an advance copy which made it even more fun to hear her read from her book, and then buy a copy to be signed and I‘ll get to read it as a genuine book; my advance copy was only on my laptop but I couldn‘t put it down and finished it in less than 25 hours - excited to read it again as a luxuriant hardcover 📖😊

Wow - I couldn‘t put it down, finishing it in 1 1/2 days. A rare 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for this one! It captured me in the way the best books do, transporting me to the world of the author, primarily the rugged landscape of rural mountainous Colorado. Thanks #NetGalley for the ARC of #DeepCreek - it should be released end of January or early February.

I submitted the request this morning and was approved this afternoon so I downloaded the book and have been so enthralled that I‘ve read the first 52 pages (I had other plans for the afternoon) - & it‘s not available for my Kindle so I‘m reading this on my computer screen!

I‘ve been captivated, angered & laughed - my 1st book of Houston‘s - loving it!
