@dabbe's #TLT this week is 80s movies. I only marked films I was absolutely certain I had actually seen and hadn't just absorbed by osmosis, for 104 of 187, or 56%. Since outside the Ghibli films I honestly don't like most of these, I blame cable t.v. in hotel rooms for the vast majority of my score. I tagged something Castle in the Sky related just because I have a fond memory of the singer from the film visiting my college class.

Faranae @dabbe Hm, I don't think I do? I've developed a new appreciation for pre-Code films, especially silent film, but that's more in the form of learning about all the “lost films“ made by marginalized people when film was young and everything an experiment almost anyone could participate in. 6mo
dabbe @Faranae Interesting! I've only seen a few silent films (THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI is a favorite). I need to revisit more! 6mo

The kids and I are having a little filmfest and watching all of Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli movies in order. (Thankfully there's only 9. Prior to this, we watched all the Disney animated movies in order and it took us years!)
Tonight was the first one: Castle in the Sky. It was new-to-me and pretty delightful! There's a great old lady character and some Gulliver's Travels references. And the animation is beautiful.

merelybookish @mcipher Please join in! 😉 I just checked and Porco Ross is his 4th film. Two of my kids are teens so maybe adult content will be okay. I'm worried about Spirited Away because I know it's kind of creepy and I'm a whimp! 6y

merelybookish @batsy My kids are really into anime and so it was their idea. I've decided not to tell them there's a Studio Ghibli theme park in Japan 🙂 6y

mcipher I guess I am all mixed up! 🤣 Spirited Away isn‘t too creepy - weird but not like a horror movie or anything. It‘s so amazing. I hope you love it!! Also I think there is a Totoro cat bus in Japan... it‘s on my list for someday. We watched that movie 8000 times when my son was little! 6y
