I read this first-in-series mystery set in 1915 (WWI) London in preparation for reading an ARC of the second one.
While an interesting premise of creating a special, secret task force which includes women to help solve cases in which a woman‘s presence might be beneficial, I found it a bit slow and a bit simplistic in its narrative. Hoping for better things in the second one. 3/5⭐️

Up next, since I have the ARC for the second book in this series (A Death in Chelsea), I decided to go back and read the first one to be familiar with the storyline. So far, so good...interesting premise.

This is a great starting to a mystery series set in 1915 London. With so many men away at war, Crimea involving women are rising in London and the male police is ill-equipped to handle them. So a task force of mostly women is created.

Fantastic historical setting, sympathetic characters, a reasonable interesting plot, though a little dragging in the middle.

Well yes, l finished my first book of 2019. I'm a snail compared to the average Litten, but hey, slowly, l'll get where l want to be!

It's so funny when books connect. I've just read an episode happening during the Zeppelin bombing of London in 1915 in 'Murder in Belgravia". My previous read, "The Vanishing of dr Winter" set in London in in 1922, dealt with events that arched back to the bombing of the city.

It feels like these stories are connected, even if they aren't. But then, in a way, they are. It's a very peculiar feeling.

Reading plans for tonight. I had the bad idea to start a new novel on the train home.
