pickI really enjoyed Kemmerer‘s Beauty and the Beast retelling, so when looking for a #RobinHood retelling, when this title popped up, I was intrigued! Though this is quite a loose retelling-& all set against the backdrop of a Maryland suburban high school. A school project thrusts the two narrators- Rob & Meagan- together where they come to confide in each other as they deal with the fallout from their own reputations & family drama. A quick listen!

Well, nobody‘s perfect. Even your favorite authors will write some things that you don‘t enjoy very much. I can accept this. I just need that to not happen when A Vow So Bold and Deadly comes out in January!

This is next up for a buddy read with my daughter! I love Brigid Kemmerer‘s writing and cant believe I haven‘t read this one yet!
Can you guess what all of these books have in common? I mean, aside from the fact that Brigid Kemmerer wrote them all. 😂 Okay, I‘ll tell you! She signed them all, too!
so-soThe writing was very good, & the plot was intriguing, but I had a harder time connecting to the MCs in this book than I did in her other ones. Maegan in particular just annoyed me, probably because she was wrapped up in a “but why can‘t POC be *civil* when calling out oppression” plot thread throughout the book 🙄. There was exactly 1 character of color in this book, & unnecessarily villainizing them in that way is just not a good look. ★★★☆☆.
pickI will have to add Brigid Kemmerer as one of my autoread authors. I have now read this and A Curse So Dark and Lovely and really like them both. She is able to write in different genres and in each, especially her male characters, are so 3 dimensional, you can‘t help but feel like you know them. This book is heartbreaking and yet so hopeful. It‘s a good one.

pickI really love Brigid Kemmerer‘s books, particularly her ya contemporary romance. This was a bit different - two students both haunted by mistakes that either they made or their parents (or their sibling)and trying to work through it. Lessons to be learned for sure - and read it for that story because the romance is a bit lacking. Still a good read.

pickI LOVED this book. Rob at one time had everything until Dad was caught embezzling people's money. Now he is trying to deal with the fall out. Maegan was an overachiever until the pressure became to much and she was caught cheating on the SAT now she is dealing with the fall out. When Maegan and Rob are put together to work on a school project. I loved them both and was pulling for them the whole time. My heart also broke for both of them!

Only Kemmerer can keep me up until 1am. Her books make me feel like a giddy teenager with a new boyfriend.
I didn't pay attention to the page numbers. I adore the writing style and as usual the character development, pacing and world building. I feel like I'm a character in the story. I'm so excited for A Heart So Fierce and Broken, and her new fantasy series coming out next year. If you're a YA reader, Kemmerer is a must read.
