Underwater Breathing | Cassandra Parkin
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
On Yorkshire's gradually-crumbling mud cliffs sits an Edwardian seaside house. In the bathroom, Jacob and Ella hide from their parents' passionate arguments by playing the "Underwater Breathing" game—until the day Jacob wakes to find his mother and sister gone. Years later, the sea's creeping closer, his father is losing touch with reality and Jacob is trapped in his past. Then, Ella's sudden reappearance forces him to confront his fractured childhood. As the truth about their parents emerges, it's clear that Jacob's time hiding beneath the water is coming to an end.

This story is very slow, and although the writing is excellent, the story did not draw me in. I kept skimming chapters to find out what had happened, but wasn't really invested in the characters to truly enjoy their story.

I should add that what happened in the past was "meh", too.

I gave it 2 stars on Goodreads.

#HumpDayPost @MinDea

1) Toothpaste meme
2) the hook I just attached to the ceiling
3) Mystery? (it was quite a #MehNotYeah)
4) Never had Tater Tots, but we have something similar and we'll have it for dinner tomorrow
5) hardly ever do it, but I like it
