Thus far, July has been a month of guilty pleasure for me. I‘m reading through Mary Calmes‘ back catalogue, and these books—while not great—are fast, relaxing, and sufficiently entertaining.

His Consort is a story about an ex-soldier meeting a vampire prince. Insta-lust, some gunfights, New Orleans, pretty neat side characters. Blood drinking & potentiall darkness. Nothing truly remarkable about this romance, but I had fun reading it.

If someone wrote a book that's sole purpose was to illustrate what red flags in a relationship look like in practice it would be this book. Since that wasn't this book's purpose I can only say that this book is trash. On top of having all the red flags it was also really conservative, which separately, gross. Avoid at all cost.

Briary Steering clear from this one. But your choice of picture is perfect 😂😂 6y

"I'm just afraid of hurting you if you try to leave me again."... This book jumps from toxic shit to toxic shit

...and now there's a long diatribe about how you shouldn't get any help from anyone and being rich is good and if you want to be rich all you have yo do is just work harder.... This is the most politically conservative gay vampire book ever

Nothing gets in my crawl more than an author putting their dumbass misogynistics beliefs in a woman's mouth... There's just too much to unpack in this passage...

Pickpick

Not a bad vampyr/human m|m romance with a little intrigue on the side. Humans have to consent and it‘s not good for the vampyr if they don‘t - love the consent aspect. It‘s a stand alone but Calmes left room for it to be a series. Some parts seemed a bit rushed and I think Calmes does non-fantasy better - the Marshalls series is quite good. I‘d still say read this if sexy times with a blood sucking prince are your thing. It was pretty hot.

It is not my fault that Dreamspinner‘s is having a 35% off all books sale AND they‘re announcing additional coupons on their social media and that means I accidentally acquired more books. I did manage not to pre-order the new R. Cooper book but only because I don‘t own the others and that means I‘d have to buy all of them and I need a new pair of shoes so...

GlassAsDiamonds I do love that logic (that I follow as well): I won‘t buy any because then I‘d need to buy them all and I really don‘t want to/ can‘t at the moment! 😂😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @GlassAsDiamonds I wouldn‘t mind having the series but I‘m trying to use the library more and balance what I do buy. It‘s hard sometimes! 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @jpmcwisemorgan very!!!! (I‘m also trying to read what I own which arguably shouldn‘t be a problem but OH THE TEMPTATION!!!). 😊😊😊 6y

jpmcwisemorgan @GlassAsDiamonds I‘m weeding out physical books. I buy a lot of books second hand and they‘re good books, I‘m sure, but I‘ve realized that I have a lot of books I‘m not going to read any time soon and limited space. I‘m keeping track and if I change my mind, there‘s always the library. I‘m going to try to read more through the library next year too. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds @jpmcwisemorgan yeah, I‘ve got a move on the horizon next year & the idea of packing and shifting books I know I won‘t read is haunting me... a cull is coming! What are you using to keep track of the ones you weed out? The brain or external help? 6y
jpmcwisemorgan @GlassAsDiamonds Right now I‘m just taking pictures of the stacks and trying to figure out where to keep that information. That‘s part of why I asked about LibraryThing. I have the Libib app and Goodreads. I don‘t really want to put the books on a wishlist but I want to keep them someplace. 6y
