Four centuries, two murders, one motive... Archaeologist Neil Watson did not to expect to find the body of American veteran Norman Oppenheim in the ruins of the old chantry chapel... He turns to his old student friend, Detective Sergeant Wesley Peterson, for help. Ironically, both men are looking at an invading force - Wes the WWII Yanks and Neil a group of Spaniards killed by outraged locals as they limped from the wreckage of the Armada. Four hundred years apart two strangers in a strange land have died violently - could the same motives of hatred, jealousy and revenge be at work? Wes is running out of time to find out ... An intriguing blend of history and detection from the author of THE MERCHANT'S HOUSE.

This is formulaic mystery with an interesting history story as the background. I'm enjoying these short mysteries as an escape from my usual dark and gritty reads.

I'd still like a little more character development for Wesley, but this is only book 2.

Norman Openheim is an American veteran of the D Day Landings. Archaeologist, Neil Watson, finds his body in the ruins of an old chantry chapel. DS Wesley Peterson is called in for help. Norman's wife, Dorinda, and her friend, Todd, offer a familiar motive for murder.
Started slowly and had too many characters who were red herrings. The reveal was presented and everything fell into place. Recommend this to those who like procedural mysteries.

#mystery #archeology #booksandcoffee
A police procedural. The author does a superb job of blending history, archeology (digs), native landscape, the sea, village life $ it‘s characters. Add a WWII vets trip to visit a war memorial dedicated to the rehearsal of D-Day landings in South Devon & you have a murder with roots in the past, WWII.

rretzler British police procedural and WWII. Ticks all the boxes for me! 6y
kspenmoll @rretzler My 2nd in this series & I am enjoying it. 6y

EadieB @Andrew65 Thanks for the schedule! Hope I can keep the reading up as I won‘t have much free time babysitting ever day. I get home on Monday and Tuesday is my day to babysit again so won‘t be free to read until Wednesday. I beginning to understand how you feel with not much reading time! 6y
Tove_Reads Good start! Liking it so far! 6y
