Little House on the Prairie
Little House on the Prairie | Fat?j Derim
13 posts | 13 read
For the first time in the history of the Little House books, this new edition features Garth Williams interior art in vibrant, full color, as well as beautifully redesigned covers. The adventures continue for Laura Ingalls and her family as they leave their little house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin and set out for Kansas. They travel for many days in their covered wagon until they find the best spot to build their little house on the prairie. Soon they are planting and plowing, hunting wild ducks and turkeys, and gathering grass for their cows. Sometimes pioneer life is hard, but Laura and her folks are always busy and happy in their new little house.

“One day in the very last of the winter Pa said to Ma, “Seeing you don't object, I've decided to go see the West. I've had an offer for this place, and we can sell it now for as much as we're ever likely to get.“

For this fun assignment, students will create their own “prairie journals,“ just like Laura Ingalls might have kept. They can write or draw about a day in the life of a pioneer child, imagining what it would be like to live in a little house on the prairie. Students can describe daily tasks, challenges, and adventures, such as helping build a house or tending to animals, and reflect on how life back then compares to their own lives today.

The Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls (1935) introduces us to Laura Ingalls, the young girl who would grow up to write the beloved Little House books. When Pa decides to sell their log cabin, the Ingalls family sets off for Indian Territory, traveling from Wisconsin to Kansas. There, Pa builds their new home on the prairie. Though farm life can be hard and even dangerous, Laura and her family stay busy and they embrace their new life.

I absolutely failed at a chapter-a-day on this one. I didn't start until yesterday and finished it up today 😂. I was surprised at the overt racist attitudes in this one - not surprised they existed, but surprised it didn't stand out to me more when I read these as a child. Pa is less endearing to me as an adult than he was when I was a child. As a parent, it's hard to read about the way he risked his family's lives ⬇️

staci.reads and the way he seemed to make massive decisions impulsively. Still, the storytelling is so well done that I am drawn right back into Laura's world and enthralled with the adventures. #LittleHouse @megnews 2y
Ruthiella I missed all that as a child too. It‘s definitely a different experience reading this series as an adult. 2y
