The book was amazing can‘t wait to finish the series ❤️
My daughter told me I needed to read this series. I read Ash Princess years ago, but I just picked this one up. Then finished it in a day. I like the elemental premise, the warrior princess, and the love interest that isn‘t.
My #doublespin is done! 🥳 between a pick and a so so. It‘s a typical second book in a trilogy. Doesn‘t feel like any action, just moving along to get to the action. Then when there is action it flies by so quickly you ask “what is the point.” Also not a fan of the dreaded love triangle, I feel like I always like the one that isn‘t picked in the end. 😑😂 the cover is beautiful though! #bookspinbingo
"Still, there is something to be said for someone seeing your darkest parts and accepting you anyway."
The story gets better here, although the best parts happen at the end of the book. Reading this was growing alongside the main character, Theo. She makes some questionable decisions throughout the book, but understandably, Theo had a horrible past decade and is only know learning how to live free, and how to be a queen. These two mean different things for her.
I did read Ember Queen prior to this, but enjoyed the series better that way.
That was amazing!! This is one of those books that has so much happening strewn across these long pages; the flow was so smooth. Drama, sacrifice, love platonic and romantic. THIS is how you write a slow burn of enemy to friends to lovers. I loved it! I really look forward to the end, where Theo takes up this new nickname. She‘s grown through the Kaisers abuse, though still there. Had to be difficult seeing her mothers ghost here after everything
I don‘t want to protect you. I don‘t need to protect you. You have others for that and you‘ve done it yourself enough times by now. I don‘t want to run away with you; I want to stand at your side and fight-fight for something I never even thought that I wanted, but I do. I‘m stronger with you, and braver, and I never want to go back to living like I was before. I love you, and it isn‘t anything to do with who you pretended to be. I love you.-Søren
280/495. Wow this sequel is amazing! The book feels so heavy in my hands, yet the writing does not make me feel that way. We‘ve gotten off the ship, Smoke, and have entered the new safe kingdom, we‘ve seen potential suitors for Theos hand to take back Astrea, and now we‘ve witnessed an attempted murder. With Søren being accused (just because he‘s Klaosvian!). Though I‘m holding out for Theodosia and Søren.
“Unless the men will be going through similar examinations [{of virginity}] before they meet me, I will not.” I say, “marrying me will bring these men untold riches when we take back Astrea. If they want to forfeit that wealth because they are too preoccupied with tradition, they are welcome to. I‘m sure there will be plenty who would rather have the money.”
Cannot stand how King Eristo, this like 80? Old man, telling Queen Theodosia that she will need to be examined for her virginity to theses coming suitors. But she handled the comment well, calling him out on the double standard. That she will not consent to the exam if the men do not. I LOVE HOW MUCH SHE HAS GROWN! As well as Soren; he‘s come far
This scene gave me pause. It‘s not a common post that the “good guys” beat up their prisoner. I really like how Theodosia felt like they should be better. Act better then the Kaiser. How else are they gonna end the war.
“I am not some jewel to be auctioned off to the highest bidder”, I say, unable to keep my voice from rising. [....] “ I am a queen and I will make my own decisions.”
Oh mee gosh, the cover is beautiful!! Cannot wait to see where Theodosia, the derogatory Ash Princess of her fallen kingdom, goes now that she‘s escaped the conqueror Kaiser. Especially with the prince, whose kinda fallen for her, as her hostage
There‘s not enough caffeine in the world today. This book kept me from fully freaking out during a crazy 1am thunderstorm last night, but sadly that doesn‘t bring back the lost hours of sleep 😴💤☕️
I loved this book! It was so much better than the first one since the first moment (and i loved the first one too, so xd). Theo is a strong and smart girl that wants her kingdmo back and she will do anything to get it, & i love her. I was surprised because i liked Soren and the other secondary characters, so that's an improvement compared to the first book. And the ending was surprising as well, i need to read Ember Queen ASAP!
I've only read 100 pages but I already like it more than Ash Princess 🙊
Completed my first full year of college since Spring 2014. Now time to catch up on my tbr pile!
Wow okay so I LOVED how this ended. I loved the new geopolitical angle we got and how it tied back to book ones ending. Theo just grew a shit ton in this book alone but it's like night and day comparing her to the start of Ash Princess to the end of Lady Smoke. I also appreciate the LGBTQ+ rep. They were all side and background characters but they were all good and the sexuality wasn't really used in the plot
I was gonna start something else but then I noticed my audiobook for this was almost due back to the library soooooooo we starting this.
Wow. Just wow. The first book blew me away but this one just... Set me on fire! I really didn't want to finish it just because I didn't want it to be over and have to wait another year for the next one! But OMG! I love this series
Todays blog is up! I almost forgot today was Monday because it is a holiday. But I remembered and we are talking Pre-orders! I have pre-ordered more books this year's already than I think I ever have! Link is in my bio! Let me know what you are looking forward to reading this year!
How did I miss this one?? I loved Ash princess and can't believe I missed the second books pub date. But it's all good because it's here now and I made sure to read chapter 1 before bed and now I cant wait to get into it! 😁😁 (I don't have the dust cover on but it is GORGEOUS!)
My TBR piles.
I have more but for now these are the ones I am most excite to read. Of course, the new releases will be added.
Most books here are either the second or third book of a series.
Which series is you're favorite?
Mines are a Thrones of Glass, Stalking Jack the Ripper, An Ember in the Ashes and The Falling Kingdom. More will be added I am sure as I finish more of them.
I'm slowly losing hope that I'll be granted this book through NetGalley. It has been in my pending requests for about 2 weeks now and I feel a denial coming. Nevertheless, I'm starting book 1 today in hopes that I'll get to read book 2 soon. 🤞🏻
