Why did I leave this series so long? Very much enjoying this third instalment, which has a format change to epistolary. A lower level functionary is tasked with producing a report on a catastrophe at a scientific research facility. There were shenanigans.

Third in Neon Yang's "Tensorate" series, and I'm afraid I've let too much time pass since reading books 1 & 2. Still, this one works pretty well on its own. It's about a lower-level official tasked with investigating a disaster at a government research facility -- and her instructions to help cover it up only make her more curious.

THE DESCENT OF MONSTERS does work as a standalone, but I think it‘s probably a lot richer if you‘ve read the first two Tensorate books. It‘s been around a year for me, and it took me a little bit to recall the important characters and relationships. Now I‘m in, though, and it‘s shaping up to be a solid novella about governmental corruption.

#ReadYourSign book three: The Descent of Monsters, published on July 31st. Okay, so bookish confession: I hate books that just cliffhanger-end on you. This one totally did that and I‘m not over it yet. I hope book four wraps at least some threads up, because AGH.

Lazy Saturday listening 😊 I‘m loving this book! I was worried the epistolary format might be hard to follow, but the narrator, Nancy Wu is so excellent! Print might be easier but I‘m glad I‘m reading the #audiobook. It‘s so awesome to hear the vocal differences in the formal letters to Chuwan‘s superiors vs. her frustrated diary entries—laced with f-bombs yet filled with such beautiful descriptions —I love it! 😁

I deserve all their suspicions. I need to be mindful of their pronouns. I‘ve been corrected too many times already and let‘s not give them more reasons to murder me.

The most science-y of the 3 novellas I‘ve listened to so far in the Tensorate fantasy series: this one starts with a tragedy at a biological research station. It‘s told entirely in epistolary form—journal entries, documents & transcripts. A new lesbian central character is introduced in this volume and I immediately felt sympathetic & invested in her efforts to investigate what happened at the station. #LGBTQ #audiobook read by Nancy Wu.

#audioknitting is better than knitting without an audiobook. While I was healing from concussion, plain knitting in a quiet room was allowed, which is how most of the pictured cowl was made. I was so happy to be able to listen AND knit by the time I got to the final part of this project.

....And now for the 3rd installment, #thedescentofmonsters. I'm hoping to finish this tonight.

Book 3 in a series that I like very much. Ah! It‘s hard to remember who everyone is, but basically, this is a packet of info sent to someone after her lover is killed (not a spoiler; revealed in the first line). Readers can piece together, sort of, what‘s been happening - the horror of what‘s been happening. And whew, it‘s bad. I do look forward to something?? being resolved in Book 4! Love this series. #sciencefiction #fantasy #novella

Excellent addition to the Tensorate series. I love the world that Yang has created as well as the characters. Each novella is told from a different point of view -- this variance adds a lot of richness to the stories

The third book in Yang‘s Tensorate series does not disappoint. When Tensorate investigators descend on the Rewar Teng Institute, they find nothing but blood & bone. Sent to investigate what happened, & perhaps to cover it up, Investigator Chuwan faces one obstacle after another. Undaunted, she pursues the truth unmindful of the consequences. A fascinating world, a great story & compelling characters in this silkpunk fantasy. A definite recommend.

The 3rd Tensorate novella, and while I personally liked the first two a bit more, this one is excellent too. 4 stars. Will be on the lookout for Yang's next work.

Truly compelling novella - I couldn‘t stand to put it down! More plot driven than the others in the series, I hope that there are more. #novella #fantasy

Finished this short novella last night. 3rd book in the Tensorate series. This one fills in pieces of the story from the previous two books. I enjoyed it, but I don't think it was quite as good as the first two. But I enjoy this strange beautiful world and would really like to see the author do more full length novels in this series. I'd love to just see more works from this author period, as a few of her short stories we're good too.

I just love this series. This one was an interesting follow-up to the first two novellas, departing from them both stylistically and in perspective. This one takes the form of an epistolary mystery, and I think it works really well. It seems lately that I‘ve read several books and stories in which the POV character is not the main character, and I find that interesting. In any case, I‘m very interested to see how this series continues.

A quick, tense read where determined characters circle a mystery they're determined to solve.

I'm already halfway through this novella-the first two were fantastic, set in a wonderful new world filled with brilliantly-realised characters-and I can't wait to finish it as soon as I get home.
