The Murder at Redmire Hall
The Murder at Redmire Hall | J. R. Ellis
5 posts | 5 read | 4 to read
An impossible murder behind a locked door. Can DCI Oldroyd find the key to the mystery? Lord Redmire's gambling habit has placed him in serious debt. Determined to salvage his fortune by putting Redmire Hall on the map, the aristocrat performs an impossible locked-door illusion on live TV. But as the cameras roll, his spectacular trick goes fatally wrong... Special guest DCI Jim Oldroyd has a front-row seat, but in all his years with the West Riding Police he's never witnessed anything like this. He sees Redmire disappear--and then reappear, dead, with a knife in his back. As Oldroyd and DS Stephanie Johnson soon discover, nearly everyone at the event had a reason to resent the eccentric lord. But how did the murderer get into the locked room--or out, for that matter? When the only other person who knew the secret behind the illusion is brutally silenced, the case begins to look unsolvable. Because as Oldroyd and Johnson know, it's not just a question of who did it and why--but how?

Book 10 finished by #AwesomeAugust

This was the sixth book in the Yorkshire Mystery Series, starring DCI Jim Oldroyd and his team.

The key part of the book is focused on the picturesque location of Whitby where Jim‘s daughter and her friends enter a locked room scenario, where one of the friends is murdered, apparently killed by another of the the friends, and they go on the run.

Andrew65 However Louise doesn‘t believe what her eyes have seen, and contacts her father for help. As usual with these books the sections focusing on the main characters and developments in their life‘s are the favourite parts of the book for me, and therefore to get the most out of them you do need to read the books in order. Andrew65 The book was well-written and had a good, and clever plot. I do feel l however the books would feel more pacy if they were separated into smaller chapters.

Overall I would recommend the book if you enjoy crime fiction but it wouldn‘t be one of my favourite series and it is important to read the other books first.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for providing a copy of this book for me, for an an open and honest review.

Another book read for #BookSpin Bingo. My October has been slow on the reading front, but there‘s still a few days left. Working on my November list!

The book: A very enjoyable read—the third in the Yorkshire Murders series. I couldn‘t get the second one from the library, but the first one really captivated me, so I moved on. Engaging mystery and characters. The lead detective is especially well drawn. A very fast read too. Recommended!

You cannot go wrong reading this series. The main character DCI Oldroyd is a character that you will fall in love with.
The victim is killed in a disappearing act and the whole family could have killed him.
