This was an easy listen for me this week. A medieval historical fiction retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I love the castle/court/kingdom aspect of the story. I grew to care about Rose, a poor woodcutter‘s daughter-turned-healer‘s apprentice, and her love interest, Lord Wilhelm, son of the Duke of Hamlin. I loved some of the unexpected details in here; I also loved that it wasn‘t overly dramatic. Just a nice, easy listen with a happy ending.

Book #37 in 2021

A reimagined tale of “Sleeping Beauty” with some fun, unique twists. While the story was engaging sometimes it felt trite and used more “telling” rather than “showing” of emotions. I enjoy Melanie Dickerson‘s books for their ease to follow and escape reality for a while. Always a sweet happy ending in a world of harsh realities.

⭐⭐⭐🌠
A likeable, sweet, Christian romance set in medieval times. I needed something lighter. I've been reading a lot of heavy, depressing books for #YAApril this month. I plan on continuing the series. @megnews

This book is a wonderfully sweet narrative about choosing one‘s own path and discovering what it means to love and be loved. Though there is hardship and pain, there is also joy and commitment and loyalty. With subtle religious undertones, the story is none the lesser for it, as it is completed tastefully and with authenticity for the time period. A beautiful Anastasia like tale that was masterfully executed! What a delight to read!

I love fairytale retellings/reimaginings! This one is Sleeping Beauty themed.

Bailedbailed

Couldn't finish this one. The storyline jumped too abruptly from character to character and I can never seem to enjoy a book that has no sentence variety. I also felt there was a lack of detail. Though I don't like books that are long winded with descriptions, I need something to capture my imagination and this did nothing for me.

Three chapters in and I have to bail.

Are you even kidding me right now?? This book was published in 2010. Are we not yet past that point when it's all the girls fault when a boy "dupes" a pretty girl? So much that even the "all-forgiving" God is going to be disappointed!! Really!? I've read many different retellings of the same time period that don't put this bs all on the girl. Again, are you even kidding me right now!!?

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This book was sweet, but nothing mind blowing. I found the characters a bit flat and the overall plot was entirely predictable. There were also many scenes that had nothing to do with the main storyline and felt a bit rushed. Still, it was a fun, quick read and I found myself wanting to pick it up again every time I put it down, so I gave it an extra half star.

TizJ3ss It is, however, a Christian Sleeping Beauty retelling, so if that's not your thing...I wouldn't recommend it. 7y
