Unbound | Victoria Schwab
Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive. Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she's struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn't easy -- not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she's really safe. Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She's sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she'll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels? With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.

This is the 2nd in The Archived series by the wonderfully talented Ms. Schwab. I was skeptical going into this but it grabbed me immediately and I never looked back. I loved being immersed into this fascinating world. Her world building is outstanding. There is supposedly going to be a 3rd but it has not been written yet. I want to read everything of hers! I need to get busy...she‘s prolific and I‘m behind!

TerriGreen A Darker Shade of Magic is a good series of hers to start next! 🧙‍♂️ 5y

The follow-up to The Archived was better than the first. More ass kicking, more risk of exposure and many reveals. Nothing is what it seems.

Finally read this book! I'm not sure why it took me so long but it was worth it. I'm really hoping the author writes a conclusion to this series. It doesn't feel quite finished.

I think I'm going with a 3.5 rating for this one. I liked the story itself, but I got tired of the people quite frequently. Mac was the typical self sacrificing girl, Wes was the mysterious (still...after two books) boy who has her heart in knots, and her parents are the "we worry so much, so here's a bunch of frustrating and stuffing ground rules that never work in making you better" type. But I still think the Keepers & Histories are pretty cool

I want to finish this today but I am so not in the mood for the relationships in this book. Apparently the time since I read the first book changed how I felt about these peope

It pleases me to be able to say that I loved this sequel more than its predecessor! Schwab allows her character to deal with the the aftermath of the events in the first in a very realistic way, even as a whole new chapter begins for her.
