Struggling in his role as a newly single father, former army medic Kevin O'Brien moves home to Chesapeake Shores. He wants a haven for himself and his toddler son, surrounded by the family he knows he can count on, and a future that's nothing like his past. But Kevin is suddenly facing a risk he hadn't anticipated, in the form of Main Street bookseller Shanna Carlyle. Shanna immediately recognizes Kevin as a wounded soul--she's had way too much experience with the type. Still, this charming O'Brien man and his son are almost impossible to resist. Then, just when the barriers are toppling, someone from Shanna's past appears. Confronted with a threat to their hard-won serenity, Kevin and Shanna face their toughest challenge--learning to trust again.

Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings about this series. I really love the fun, obnoxious family and the setting, but sometimes the "drama" feels so contrived, and in this book it just seemed like the main characters went in circles and I never was convinced they actually went forward (spoiler below). I own some of the later books in this series which is why I started it, but I think it gets one more chance before I throw in the towel!

TheAromaofBooks The whole story MMC wants to take things slow & FMC is basically like “no, I want sex now,“ which felt awkward. I constantly felt like the MMC was being harassed by his family and by the FMC to just “get over“ his issues. THE FINAL CHAPTER he again says he thinks they should take things slow; FMC says “fine then it's over“ and then HE PROPOSES?!?!?! “Oh I have the ring right here, totally ready for commitment!“ It just felt awkward & unrealistic. 2y
Librarybelle Yikes! I‘ve not read anything by Woods, but the ending sounds a bit unrealistic. 2y

TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - There was a conversation where the MMC is basically like, “Sex isn't casual to me & I don't think it should happen without a genuine, committed relationship“ & the FMC was like “well we're both adults & I think we should have sex while being friends & if you don't like it we're over“ & I just kept wondering how that would read if the M/F roles were reversed?? I really felt like the MMC concerns were blown off because he was a guy😕 2y

Quiet Sunday, back with the O‘Brien family. #harborlights #sherrylwoods

Read this one in two days, a heartwarming story - as I‘ve come to expect from the Chesapeake series!

I‘m working my way through the 14 book series and I‘m really enjoying them. This one is book three and I enjoyed the story about Kevin and Shanna. Now on to book number four...the first Christmas themed book in the series that centers around Mick and Megan‘s reconciliation.

Because I‘m not really into my book group read, I decided to read one off my owned tbr yesterday and it did not disappoint! I love small town romances and although I read a lot of steamy stuff, I also really enjoy these more slow paced, little steam books too. Plus, I‘m a sucker for anything with water on the cover. It‘s still a mystery to me how my whole family are landlubbers.
