panOne of the weirdest books I‘ve read in awhile. Set in London, Chief Inspector Acton is a brilliant murder investigator with an issue…he‘s also a stalker. His obsession? Deputy Constable Doyle, a young recent recruit. They work together to solve a series of murders. OK, the story started off fine but quickly went off the rails for me. Acton is a controlling, moody figure in a position of power (think god-like). He‘s 37, a wealthy baron who has 🔻
robinb meticulously learned EVERY aspect of Doyle‘s life (breaking into her apartment, cyber info, etc.). After working together for 3 months, he confesses to her that he has a neurosis (stalking). Doyle is a 24 yo virgin, poor, not well-educated (but gifted at reading people except for apparently Acton), and is thrilled and humbled to be working with him…and she also apologizes every 5 minutes for some infraction. 🔻 3y
robinb Is she creeped out by his obsession? Upset by his invasion of her privacy? No. She feels that she can help him, and they marry within a week of his bombshell and thus begins their incessant sexual interludes. Obviously the mystery (at least to me) takes a backseat to this icky m/f dynamic. I find it hard to believe that there are currently 15 books in this series. 🔻 3y

KathyWheeler I don‘t think I could read this. I‘m super creeped out by stalking even though it‘s never happened to me. I couldn‘t read or watch You for the same reason. 3y
robinb @KathyWheeler I went into this blind thinking it was just a police procedural mystery. The story just got more and more unbelievable as I went along. How did a guy with his issues get to his position and slip through the loopholes?! And yes, stalkers scare me too. (edited) 3y

robinb @erzascarletbookgasm An even weirder thing for me is that it was written by a woman. That just seemed so wrong with how the relationship was set up. And it also got a lot of 4 and 5 ⭐️ reviews on GR and BookBub. To each their own. 🤷🏻♀️ 3y
